The one who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd.

The one who walks alone, is likely to find himself in places no one has ever

Morning John and nice quote.I will love to add that everyone is unique whatever challenges they may had. As any challenge can be overcome with the help of others and themselves. ; )

agreed, just a shame that the current education system around the world are not very flexible in this approach to allow the students to learn in different ways of expression or different ways of thinking, ie if the teacher only teaches a static way, how are they to teach and learn from somebody whos way of thinking is different and at times "erratic"

Well Matthew...everything can be changed if everyone we get together and help others and help the education system whatever it is to cater to others not just the able bodied one but the one with education challenges I.e dyspraxia and dyslexia.

I do not know if you have been keeping tabs on the current hearings for the education system which jamies school participated on. and most of their talks was "how do we regulate and create a system that we can control" it seems hey still cant , even though they were spoken to from experts and people going through learning difficulties that dyslexia and the such, are not and can not be dealt with by a "system" or static way of thinking.

and that sadly it seems is where we are stuck. instead of allowing open minded people willing to understand and gain skills from experts and from those going through it , so that they can teach at a better level that could even improve the life of people that dont deal with these issues.

we are still stuck with not only the education system, but also the system of which teachers are trained and examined. to solve a problem you need to look at the starting foundation to understand the bigger issue at hand. if you attempt to see the solution from the bigger picture, you will never understand how to deal with it with a solution thats effective, instead all you will do is create a harder working environment thats exhaustive energy is wasted although at times may deals with situations at times, the problem will still be there.

A person can be a qualified "expert" but unless they know how the person thinks and feels from experiences themselves, how are the students able to learn from a better quality of life skills.

I totally agree mathewlisett, you may note from my last post that even the adult education system is still grossly failing its students.

John-clayton-nlp. Im not generally one to follow the crowd either, in my work as a Senior Carer in a severe Dementia unit I have spent 5 years fighting my manager and employers for the rights and fair treatment of the people I care for. I have achieved very little and it has virtually made my position in this care home almost impossible. I am not happy to admit defeat but I am now defeated; and on Thursday I start a new job working with adults with learning difficulties. So walking alone didn't really help me to achieve anything dramatic but has lead me to a new field of work that im sure I will love.

I may not have changed the world but I know my views have been imprinted well onto a few minds and I can hold my head up.

as from my write up scribd.com/doc/97539169/Dys... you will see that many dyslexics have a beautiful way of thinking.

Now during my stages of depression over the last 10 years, i was able to figure out that even though i worked my ass off for the company i worked for, using all my thoughts and feelings and determination to get to "head chef/ team leader" role and to teach others better than i was taught. after many years being pissed off because of the way i was treated and thinking just like you that during the last few years there and being ignored. I realized about 5 years ago that the bit that made me passionate about the work and the way of my thinking, who i am, and what i stood up for. All of that hasn't changed. I now use all that energy towards several things in my life, from copyright to p2p communication and development of future practices (read mathew30 on twitter youll know what im talking about then) to keeping on my path of doing my own business and doing things that places such as youtube, ebay, facebook etc are not doing or cant be bothered to do.

im taking the view i had 10 years ago, and im helping others that have tried to end their lives, ive been my mums counselor for the last 3 years, and shes been to several PROFESSIONAL ones that have been useless (the last one she went to even said he was the incorrect level to talk to and there was no point her coming back) my mum even stated that compared to them, shes gained more help talking to me than them because of my own experiences, my view of life and also at times when needed, no taking crap from her when she needs to kick back into reality (when the mind in depression tells you lies and you start thinking things)

so has all your efforts from your hard work been to waste, even though you are starting a fresh job, hell no. in fact you are taking your experiences you have gained and your passion from one part of your life to another hopefully greater stage. you now know what management and boss's can be like, and you have likely been adjusted mentally and physically in how you previously reacted and from this new job, will very likely become stronger, knowing when to listen and when to stand up for yourself an others but having the knowledge and experience to back it up but also knowing what not to do or say to go over the line.

I was told back in 99 that it was a joke that i should even considering training to be a head chef as i was "shit and not good enough and thick as a plank of wood" . the person that told me this graduated from college as a chef (had a big ego, yet had a really bad work ethic thinking he was better than everybody) well now im grateful for that experience because of who i am today, and so should you and anybody else.

Ian you may think you haven't changed anything, but you have been authentic, true to yourself & your courage to challenge the ignorance & narrow minded views of those you worked for may have made a difference... even if your support for the people lucky enough to be cared for by you had rare moments of clarity, just think how they may have felt knowing that someone cared enough about them to think about them & fight for them. You know the saying, not word for word I'm afraid, but... somewhere a butterfly flutters their wings & this causes a reaction somewhere else.

walking a way doesn't mean your defeated, maybe they are defeated because they have lost a very talented, caring person. The way I see it is the fact you walked away demonstrates your strength and inability to change. And by walking away you're finding new ways. One door closes 10 more open... My grandmother has recently been diagnosed with dementia... god, how they need people like you to actually care :-) and you definitely can hold your head up high.

I agree, my efforts were not wasted, I however failed to achieve my objectives but I did accomplish a lot and made some significant changes.

I have never actually been assessed as I cannot afford the £300 but I am totally convinced I am. The list of indicators for adults you posted for instance, I suffer from all but about 3 of those. I have done various online indicator tests that usually put me as severely Dyslexic. I will get the proper assessment one day.

just realised i made a slight error ...

The way I see it is the fact you walked away demonstrates your strength and inability to change

it's suppose to say... The way I see it is the fact you walked away demonstrates your strength and ability to change... not inability lol
