Learning and memory techniques

Hi my name is Mark I struggled in school and was thought of as a slow learner. Was diagnosed with dyslexia as an adult. I am looking for tips on being able to remember what I study and or read. I get very flustered when dealing with many things and then shut down and fall apart. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated

Hi Mark,

I have found a few things that helped me.

Reading out loud and making mind maps. I use to take take pictures on my phone of the Komi d maps to I could look at them when ever I wanted to.

In terms of remembering lessons I used to record those so I could play them back as many times as I wanted. I have also used an Echo pen and found that extremely helpful taking notes.

Am not sure from your post what level of studying you are doing but all educational institutions have to make adjustments for learners with disabilities including dyslexia.

You may also be able to apply for a disabled students allowance which may help you purchase any extra equipment you may need. You may also be entitled to some extra time in your exams.

Good luck with your studies and I hope you find a strategy that works for you.

Thank you very much. I appreciate that input. I’m not taking classes at school anymore. But I do a lot of personal study and reading and trying to make it just personal advancement for work. And it is always a struggle with reading and retaining.

If your in work place have you had an access to work assessment? This can help your employer with costs of reasonable adjustments. I have one and it’s help pay for software, an echo pen, copping strategy training for me and then awareness training with my team. It also documents things like I may need extra brakes etc
