Sorry to hear your teacher said that. Have you spoke to a parent?

You can get tests done to see how you read on white paper compared to a colour which might help? Speak to your schools SENCO

I would really encourage you to talk with your parents and get tested you might need to have your tests done in a certain color, also I would encourage you to go to an opthomologist and have your eyes checked.

Hi Becca this can be a knee jurk reaction from teachers.

I suggest you ask your parents to get you assessed for dyslexia.

I am 57 years old and have battled with this throughout my academic career. I was assessed this year and diagnosed with dyslexia. It can be a distinctive turning point in your life if you have dyslexia and get the help you need.

I would also suggest getting your eyes tested as this too can cause headaches.

Good luck.

Hi. You did the right thing telling your teacher and her reaction was not good. You need to tell your mum or dad too. Have you done that? They may not understand your problem either, but you must tell them about your difficulties becasue they may have had the same when they were at school and they will understand what you are saying and be able to help you.. Then you need to go and speak to the person who is in charge of Special Needs. Go to the office and ask who that person is. She/he might be called a SENDCo,(Sepcial Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordiantor) Special Needs doesn't mean that you are not clever, it just means that you have a different way of learning than other pupils. If you explain that you need help with your work, they will know who to send you to. Make an urgent appointment and the SENDCo will help you, that's their job. Take a parent with you to the appointment if you can. Do that ASAP. Let us know how you get on. Are you in the UK? Well done for taking this first step. You are a star :)

First thing you need to know is that, there have been tests conducted on teachers that show most function at a 6th grade mentality. (It was done in Texas several years ago.) Starting with that as a thought process you need to take what they throw at you with a grain of salt.

Unfortunately, it will affect your outcome in life, so try to make the effort anyways. AND the most important lesson no one ever taught me is this, School is about networking, and building connections for later in life, which has more value than anything you can possibly imagine. So try for the best grades to go to the best colleges and make connections!

In regards to headaches, are you in need of an eye test, could be you are straining and don't know it, causing trouble reading because of the need for glasses. If you have glasses maybe you need a new prescription. Are you in an environment with all fluorescent lights, can you perceive the flicker? If yes that can lead to headaches. How about are you dehydrated, that can lead to headaches as well, No Bull, it screws with more people for lack of water than you might think. School systems should have a testing available to students for Dyslexia, find your school admin or counselor and tell them you may have it and want to the tested.

If they throw any resistance, mention the ADA to them and point out hat the wording in the ADA allows for anybody who blocks you to be personally have a law suit brought, yes that would be a threat, and will alienate, so use it as a last resort and bring a copy of the Americans with disabilities act with you to hand them.

If you are dyslexic, they should be able to steer you to work arounds for the reading issues. But dyslexia is not just about flipping B's, and D's, b's and d's, (was that hard to read?) It is how the brain is wired and can muck up other things for you in perception. Seek out a definition for your problem so you know where to start.

Good luck. and know that School ends and life will begin, so hang in there.
