Jisc TechDis, a leading UK advisory service on technologies for accessibility and inclusion for disabled staff and students, together with Dyslexia Action, want to hear your views.

Please let us know:

Did 25% extra time work for you?

Did you need to work with a PC?

Did you have the assistive tools you needed?

If you had a scribe or a reader did this make the difference between pass or fail?

How could the exams process better support dyslexic learners?

Any additional comments?

Please email your responses either as an audio file, a video ‘selfie’ or a quick email to alistair@ttechdis.ac.uk and/or sanderson@dyslexiaaction.org.uk.

We’ve got a chance to put your point of view to the decision makers but we’ll need to receive your story by Friday 26th September.

A solution to this would be to allow recordings or aural exams instead of writing. If a student knows the answer, and requires a scribe, wouldn't a verbal response to a live person or a tape recorder be a better way?

This could actually be the end of the problem for dyslexic candidates. Hidden benefit: teachers could focus on getting their students up to speed with their verbal communication skills, great for job, college and university interviews. and life skills in general. Can you hear that I'm a drama teacher as well as an SEN specialist!!

My dyslexic students have benefited from all the above strategies however, many of them would have excelled had they been tested aurally.
