Please could anyone advise me on a diet to change this high reading. How can I manage it myself. I am a little over weight at 75 kilos but what else can I do lower the risk. I do not drink alcohol, I do not eat crisps or biscuits. Because of my IBS I already watch what I eat. I love vegetable I rarely eat processed foods. Exercise yes I walk my tiny dogs for 15 to 20 minutes a day but not nearly enough I'm sure. Please help feeling a but anxious as this has come as a bit of a shock. I am 66 years old.

Hello, Like you I am pre diabetic . I was really worried when I was told this over three years ago. There was no support for people who are pre diabetic in our surgery and I was just told to watch my diet and my weight. I did a bit of research to be proactive and lost two stone and cut down on sugar. Fortunately i have stayed under the magc line and remain pre diabetic at the last blood test. Were you told the cause of how you became pre diabetic?

I was told 4 or 5 years ago I was prediabetic. My doctor said to regard the 5 a day fruit and veg as only veg. Since then, this summer, I found out from hospital notes that I am diabetic. Speaking to my GP he said I am "type 2 diabetic controlled by diet". He sent me to the nurse at the surgery for advice on diet. She said to follow the Eatwell Plate. I've been trying to follow that since I was aware that it existed! It seems that trying to eat healthily is the thing to do, reducing sugar and fat and red meat. Good luck. Don't worry.

Hello. I have had Type 2 for a few years now and eventually took control because there is no help here. I've managed to reverse the condition by reading up a bit about it and then following a really low-carb diet by cutting out, or severely limiting, bread, potatoes, pasta, rice and so on. And of course not one sweetie passed my lips. Easy enough for me because I don't have a hankering for sweet things. It was interesting looking for substitutes for carbs and experiomenting with this and that. This diet lasted about a year and a bonus was the loss of a stone in weight. If your little dogs can manage it, a longer walk might also help you. Good luck with this. Merry Christmas.
