Is it a fasting blood test result? Your doctor is right : a reading of 8.2 is considered diabetic

But if you were not fasting when you did your blood test the hospital may be right... these are the guidelines for diagnosis

Fasting glucose test: normal range below 5.5 mmo/l

pre-diabetic: between 5.5 and 6.9

diabetic : above 6.9

non fasting (called random) normal below 11.1

Personally 11.1 is very high, but if you had eaten a bag of crisps in the hour before the blood test it may be considered normal....

But not according to WHO guidelines.

A reading of 10mmol/litre is too high.

Too high to be normal!?

But you should also have a fasting blood glucose check to see what that result is. A normal fasting, non-diabetic range (WHO guidelines) should be between 4.5 to around 7mmol/litre.
