Hi welcome to the group. Like you i was recently diagnosed with type 2 and also just like you have found it utterly baffling. I thank heaven for the day i found this site as i have learnt so much from fellow sufferers and am now beginning to look at things differently. I dont know what care you and support you are getting from your doc and diabetic nurse, but i have discovered that there is a standard of care we should be getting. I have been advised by someone on here to order a book Reverse your type 2 diabetes by Dr Cavan and to get a meter to check my sugar levels. I have ordered both and now just waiting for Amazon.

I am finding Breakfast is better if i have a couple of scrambled or poached eggs, but no toast, so i have 2 slices grilled bacon. It keeps me full for quite a while, whereas the Weetabix i used to have left me hungry in an hour or so. Look at all the sugar contents on everything you buy, don't buy diabetic foods, they are a waste of money, and try and avoid low fat yoghurts etc, and have full fat instead but cut down your portion sizes, and don't eat too many or too much. Sure there will be some others who will also reply with far more information than i have been able to give you. I was diagnosed in January so it is still all quite new to me. Are you on Meds or are you hopefully going to be diet controlled?

Hi I have only had type two diabetes from January as well, but lot of the food I do not like, the vegies ok but other foods they say I do not like, so struggling with foods and my job at the hospital I start at 1pm and finish at 8pm I get home 10ish at night so do not want to cook, I have Weetabix in the morning for breakfast but as you say does not last me for long, in my work at the hospital there is only Costa so not much there I can have.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last May. I found dietdoctor.com/low-carb very helpful. Like you I was at a loss as to what to eat at first. 2 weetabix had been my norm. Now I have scrambled eggs or porridge. I stick to moderate carbs. About 100 grams a day and my blood glucose readings are all fine. I do test every day before and 2 hours after food to check what impact the food has had. Will do less as I get to understand what suits me more. I do t think it matters to much when you eat as to what you eat.

It seems that you are really struggling Jo and i do empathise, are you getting any advice from your gp or, like me have you more or less been told to get on with it? I got my meter yesterday, so now it is set up, am going to take a reading in the morning when i wake(i keep waking with bad headache every day for over a week now) the 2 hours after breakfast, going to try oats and add some cinnamon for flavour tomorrow and an apple, then 2 hours after lunch - probably some chicken, small piece of cheese and small normal yoghurt, and then 2 hours after evening meal, Fish, and some spinach . Will see what the readings are after that. This site is really helpful though and i am reading my "bible" by Dr Cavan, which is making things a lot clearer. He believes that type 2 can be reversed, so i am going to stick to it as much as possible. Maybe you should get the book as well, mine was only £3 plus p and p on amazon.

Hope things improve for you soon
