New Receiver: DEXCOM (Nuevo receptor: DEXCOM)

Last night, I had to call DEXCOM to get a new replacement receiver because mine was one of the receivers that won't make the music when it's necessary (blue colored). There was a notice that was sent out about this as a possible issue with certain receivers, but I thought mine was okay since it had made music in the beginning--- like it was supposed to. I found out that the music part didn't work because I try to test the sounds and profiles sometimes twice a month to make sure everything is okay. When I had checked everything yesterday after work, the Fixed Low/55 alert didn't make any music (this is the one DEXCOM wants their users to check the most).

The new receiver had gotten here today, but I need to do the set up for it after dinner tonight. It may take a little while, but we'll see. DEXCOM sent me a return envelope so I can send back the disfunctional receiver and let them know that the new one had gotten here. Since the disfuntional one doesn't work correctly and it wasn't my fault, the DEXCOM company replaced the receiver for free. I'm going to let you know how the new one works and write again in the next few days.

Speaking of new parts, I had inserted a new sensor yesterday morning before heading to work. While at the center, I had to do the two calibrations to get the new sensor up and running. This is another good reason to replace the receiver because I never would have known to do the calibrations without looking at the screen. I never was alerted to being told to do the calibrations since there wasn't even any vibrations. That is different since that had never been an issue before. Not sure why it all started having problems yesterday, but I guess, somedays are full of trouble of some kind when it comes to electrical equipment!

Hi,

I'm trying to be very good and follow low carb to try and get my blood sugars more stable. After I saw the diabetes nurse last week she suggested lowering my night time insulin to 15 units from 16. I did so and my morning blood sugar was high so, I've gone back to 16 units. I've had a couple of low morning blood sugars between 5 to 6 and I've quickly had my breakfast to stop my bloods falling lower. My nurse said that a true hypo is 4 or below and I hadn't had any of them according to my blood sugar diary but I explained that I was getting really bad headaches, feeling cold and clammy, shaking and trembling and unable to get out of bed. She confirmed that these were hypo symptoms and that lowering my insulin dose might help.

I also told her about your advice to test my bloods before bed and to multiply the number by 18 and if the total was more than 100 eat some protein before bed, and, if it was lower than 100 to eat some carbs and protein. She quized me and I explained that for a protein snack I would eat some cheese and nuts and that I could eat cheese and couple of oat cakes for a protein and carbs snack. She said to continue with this and to be wary about the amount the of carbs. She said that a couple of oat cakes was fine as they are slow release carbs. I don't think she's aware that I'm more on the ball about my diet and that eating fats with carbs slows the digestion of carbs in the gut, and hence slows the release of sugar into the blood.

One the whole she was pleased with my progress and I've to continue logging everything in my diary until I see her in 3 months time.

So, that's it in a nutshell!

TT x
