Hello and welcome to the group. Please feel free to read the posts and put your own comments/postings on the group's site for HU.

For type 2 diabetes, please check out drwf.org.uk and go to the resources section with the free leaflets. You can either read by downloading or listening to the information on the DIABETES RESEARCH AND WELLNESS FOUNDATION site.

I hope this helps.

I was also found to have T2 - I was already on a pre diabetes study and was given steroids for arthritis which tipped me into being T2.

I found diabetes.co.uk and DietDoctor.com to be very useful sites but the best thing I did was to buy and read a wonderful book called Reverse your T2 Diabetes by Dr David Cavan. It is similar to Michael Mosely's 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet.

I followed the instructions to the letter and ate exactly as described. I also bought my own blood sugar meter - I wasn't given one by my diabetes nurse - I did as Dr Cavan recommended, took readings before and two hours after every meal, recorded everything I ate and eliminated everything and anything that spiked my blood sugar levels. The results of my first HbA1c test after I started my new regime had the lowest score I have ever had and I am now not considered to have T2.

I had to work hard and give up a lot of my favourite foods because testing showed that anything with grain based carbs and also jacket potatoes really spiked my blood sugar as well as the things that I expected would do it. I never eat cakes, biscuits. diet drinks and junk foods, I get my carbs from carby vegetables, I bought a Fitbit and have increased the amount of exercise I get. I've gone from 78kgs to 56kgs since December last year - that happened without even trying just because I was keeping my blood sugars within the correct range - and I feel so much better. So good luck, You can beat T2 with a bit of effort. Or I did.

On 27/11/15 my HbA1c was 6.7% (50mmol) and I weighed 73.6kg

On 5/4/16 my HbA1c was 5.6% (38mmol) - not sure what I weighed in April but I now weigh 55.6kg.

I no longer test for every meal but my average for the past 30 days is 5.7. I'm finding I'm really being hit with the dawn phenomenon for some reason but someone pointed me to the archives and I found something on there saying that it could be my blood pressure meds are needing adjusted and I'm wondering if that might be the case for me so I'll look into that.

Do you test and have a snack before bed?

I tended to test a couple of hours after my evening meal and not test at bedtime and I don't normally eat other than at mealtimes but tonight I have had a snack.

I've brought my tester up to bed with me so if I waken up at 03.00 or 04.00 like I often do I'll have a look and see what my readings are then.

Okay. What do you usually run at between 3 and 4 in the morning?

Don't know - I've never done it before. If I waken up and remember this will be my first time doing it.
