Came on here desperately trying to stop my unhealthy relationship with alcohol. My partner drinks and he won’t ever stop it seems since we have been together my drinking has increased. I’m not passing blame as I’m my own person but it doesn’t help the triggers. I’ve decided to try and sort this with or without his input. We drink every other night without fail. I’m fed up of feeling so tired and depressed. I had some advice to come on here hoping this May open a door of opportunity to speak to like minded people who are also battling this problem. Determined to get through this week without a drink. Any tips to get through the evening? Many thanks

Best wishes to you all

Going through exactly the same thing. Today is my first sober day. I’ve downloaded the nhs app and made a pledge for this week to not drink at all. An achievement if I can do it!

You have the right mind set. You are your own person and if you wish to stop it doesn’t matter if he continues. By setting an example by stopping and him seeing you become alcohol free and happy he may change his habits. Alcohol is a depressant. The first drink is the hardest to refuse but you know what will happen if you drink. When the wine witch comes to tempt you with your first drink remind yourself of all the bad things you’ve done and said with alcohol inside you. Look forward, where do you want to be in 1 year, 5 years, 10 years? Still drinking?
