Left sided nerve pain post stroke

Hi I had a medulla stroke in 2016 after dissecting the corotid and vertrabal Arteries leading to my brain. I was 48 at the time! I have been left with total left sided nerve damage and cold causes pain! I take 100mg of pregabalin, morning and night. My concern is I have short term memory loss and I am unsure if this is down to the medication or stroke? I cannot stop taking medication as pain is so severe and especially in winter! I would like to meet anyone with similar issues who may have been offered a better way to manage these symptoms without the need for drugs? Thanks in advance

hi Blesso.. I had a stroke in 2018 and paralyzed on my whole left side I’ve been suffering from hypersensitivity on my left side. Doctor said it’s neuropathic nerve damage from stroke. Hot and cold cause me so much pain. I was put on pregabalin 100 mg(3x/ day). It helped a lot but this medication caused me so much weight gain . I gained 35 lbs on the 6 weeks that I was on pregsbalin. So I stopped taking it . I still suffer from hypersensitivity to hot and cold. But I’m afraid gaining so much weight might cause me more health issues. I also have short term memory loss. It’s caused by the stroke and not the medication. Did you experience weight gain while taking pregabalin?

Hi Blesso. I had a Wallenberg stroke almost five years ago and I have left sided hypersensitivity and nerve pain. I have only tried Amytriptaline which did help with the pain but made me extremely dizzy so I stopped taking it. The only thing I use is CBD oil now. I am part of a FB group and all the members have had Medullary strokes have a look at it if you are on FB

Hi, all I can offer is this...... Find ways to keep any stress to a minimum.... Use pacing, use meditation, you have to control it or it Will feel like it's controlling you..... It helps me feel more in control. Plan ahead and let go the past as that's history, stay in the moment.

May I suggest that you also visit the Headway section of health unlocked? A lot of stroke victims get more advice there. 🙏

Hiya, I'm also 48 and had a stroke in September this year. I fell and tore my carotid on the right side. I have very similar symptoms to yours, I hate anything touching my left side-a touch feels like a plaster being pullled off my skin and water always seems to be hot, I cannot tell the difference between hot and cold water so for safety I do everything with cold. Did you find a better way to deal the pain?Ste
