I had a massive stroke this time last year, followed by two lots of brain surgery and am recovering well if a little slowly! I am usually such a 'cry baby' and still use to cry at E.T. although I have seen it a zillion times. It is now as if there is a 'switch' in my brain that has been turned off and I find that I haven't cried at any thing since the stroke. Has anyone suffered anything similar?

Hi Catherine and welcome to the forum. It's great that you recognise that you're making progress. After my stroke I went the other way emotionally. Things such as DIY SOS will see a silent tear running down my cheek and fighting to keep it under control.

I think it's pretty normal for emotions to be haywire.

It took me over a year to find "happy" in my emotional vocabulary. And still not very often.

Might be worth checking out the headway here too ?

It could be from the trauma, shock and kind of numbed.

Don't beat yourself up though.

Quite the opposite for me- I hardly ever cried at fiction but when Kylie died iin Corrie last year I was in pieces which felt weird. The rest of the crying is just sadness about the stroke. I suppose its only an issue if you are finding it otherwise difficult to express yourself or you are missing the physical release of a good cry.....
