Hemo vs. PD

Is hemodialysis 3x a week easier in the end compared to PD and being stuck on a machine every night for 8 to 10 hours?

Hi, I think that if you are still in employment, PD would be a good option, because it gives you the freedom to work full time during the day, 5 days a week, without having to take time off work. Dialysis can then be done during the night when you're asleep, which means the whole day is free to do as you please. I found that with PD, I could work full time and lead a very normal life and not have to give up 3 days a week for HD.

All the best.

PD can help preserve residual kidney function. It's also a gentler form of dialysis and better tolerated. The 3X week hemodialysis is the BARE minimum and can have many negative side effects. After 40 years of CKD, 18 on dialysis I can honestly say PD was the easiest to do, felt the best and best outcomes physically. If I could choose the very best I would definitely would choose PD.

Some can't sleep and some can easily do exchanges during the day without overnight treatments and continue to work or go to school. Each person must choose for themselves. If you decide it's not for you, then choose something else. You are not required to stay in a modality if it's not for you.

Blessings

I have started the evaluation process for a transplant but that is running slow and I supposedly only have 90 days from starting visit to get everything done. My starting visit was on 11/14/2019 and I have heard nothing else. I have left messages with my coordinator but no return reply. I am dealing with enough stress just getting used to feeling yuck and worried about dialysis that I can't be worried about the evaluation also. I am almost ready to give up on the transplant evaluation this year if they don't get back to me soon. I still have to visit a vascular surgeon and then have an operation for access without worrying about taking off other things.
