It is the more convenient option but there is a lot of baggage and supplies.

I have also had a problem with my exit site care-am getting bleeding and discharge and discomfort.St.James'Leeds have put me on course of antibiotics for this and am changing my dressing every day. They are talking about a tube change but I cannot see what is stopping the problem re-occurring.

Hi Cushy,

I was on pd and it worked really well for me till I damaged my catheter and contracted an infection-, resistant to antibiotics so had the Cather removed,

Had the same problem as you , it turned out to be the collar was not in a good position and eventually popped out so had to have it removed.

I was always meticulous re cleaning etc to the point of paranoia.

Now on nocturnal heamodislysis which again is working really well for me.

Best wishes

Philip

I think the biggest con is that the peritoneal lining wears out, so you're only delaying Haemo.

Not a con, your renal consultant will explain all the options before a final decision is taken on the form of dialysis

It doesn't "wear" out. PD relies on the permeability of peritoneal lining for transfer of chemicals in your blood by osmosis to the dialysis fluid

Usage slowly destroys that permeability over the years but the major cause is peritonitis that scars the lining and reduces transfer rate

This happened to me after 7 years on PD and three bouts of peritonitis forcing me into HD
