Almost there

Got The Call 2.30 Saturday morning. Total shock is I was not aware that I had been activated on the List. Found out later that it had happened on the previous Thursday.

Went to the transplant unit had all the usual tests and waited. I was told that it came up as a perfect match and they had not called in a backup.

After 7 hours I was beginning to wonder if there was a problem. An hour later the surgeon came in and said he was very sorry but the kidney had not been received within the viability time parameters and so unfortunately it was wasted.

Got home exhausted both mentally and physically so had something to eat and fell into bed. Literally 10 minutes later the phone rang, there was another match but this time I was the backup, did I want to come in? I was so wiped out by the previous 18 hours that I did what I never imagined I would no and said no.

Getting two offers when I had only been on the list 2 days leaves me very optimistic

Hi Poppydolly,

Wow what a rollercoaster for you.

Last August I had the call, what an emotional rush. Like you had all the final checks, went to bed, sent my wife home, 6 hours later had the news that the diner kidney could not be retrieved in time.

Hospital were really good with me and explained empathetically why and would not let me go home till I was ok.

We have a grey system in our NHS,

Hope you get the call again soon.

Hi Poppydolly,

What an experience! I can imagine that you feel shattered, but admire your optimism and hope for you that another call comes when you are ready.

It's a truism that things happen in their own good time. Third call lucky for you 😊

Well something similar happened with me last August. I got the call and drove 6 hours. Waited in the hospital 4 hours and was told that the kidney looked good on paper, but the tissue typing wasn't a success. So I drove another 6 hours with no transplant.

So I definitely understand. But to u and anyone else I always say, stay strong, stand on faith and stay prayerful... Take care

Wow you really have been on a rollercoaster of emotions. It's sounds like you are remaining positive that the call will come soon, especially as you were lucky enough to get to offers within 2days of being on the list.

I'm so sorry that it hasn't worked out for you and hope you get that call soon. That life changing call. I too am waiting for that call.

Look after yourself and reach out to those here as it sounds a common thing to happen
