So my journey began.....

So I met the disease - diabetes - while pregnant in my 15th week with my second born... what a nightmare, 2 weeks on a diet then my sugar did not come down, kept going up one morning waking with 22.5... then glugophage another week then hallo hospital for a week to get my sliding scale working for the rest of my pregnancy.... now you all know a pregnant lady with her cravings so now here I am will all my cravings and not allowed to eat anything ( that is how i felt). But okay kept going because didn't want harm to come to my little baby boy. Due to Diabetes as well as High blood pressure ( which i only get when i am pregnant) my boy was born 6 weeks prem, he was in ICU for 2 weeks because his sugar was 0 and they stuggled to get it up. Felt like it was all my fault and I wanted to scream in anger at everyone and everything. So they usually say gestational diabetes go away - NORMALLY. so i just pretended it was gone. Untill begining of April this year when my husband asked me to please think of my kids and him in just denying it all. so off we went to the Dr and here we are. I am injecting 4 times a day and each time i feel like fainting because I hate absolutely hate a needle. Trying to eat healthing but not actually knowing how... Need some direction and ideas and examples. Saw the diabetic dr yesterday and he said he is sure with some weightloss, excersise and lifestyle changes we will be able to reduce my injections or even just get me onto tablets. So here we go lets do this, i don't want to inject anymore, i hate it. So please anybody out there help.

I work as a manager in a kitchen so it's hard enough to try and find all healthy stuff right there between all the lekker burgers, confectionary, fried foods, lasagne, pasta's and sweets.

Any examples and ideeas for what one can have for breakfast, lunch and dinner and must i snack inbetween?

Dr said yesterday to cut down on Carbs - Starch.

At the time i saw a Dietician which had given me the most incredible advise. According to her there isnt a diet for Diabetics' but mereley a healthy eating plan and the buzz word being "in moderation"

Strongs !!!

We are thinking of you Winni everyday! So sorry, shame with things you mentioned. Glad to hear your hubby wants to help you with your situation. Just like Wendyf said, check out the website & focus on what foods you really like with your menus. They don't have to be complicated but you can encourage your family as you do it together. When/if you can squeeze the time reward yourself with what you like to do etc. to offset your lifestyle being a diabetic. (privately ask your husband to help, maybe someone to take your baby while you go on date. or give your self a TLC area that makes you happy). Once you get on a good lifestyle the weight goes off, your routine with foods etc. all fall in place. I eat something like every 2 hours. I like to munch a lot (but make a list of foods to be moderate in your way of eating) I dislike the word "diet" & I feel better with the words way of eating ha! With eating every 2 hours it stops all cravings. Not sure if you like sugar free but Dischem is awesome with foods available for diabetics. Again, moderation with intake (you can have weight gain w/out the sugar) Will watch your blog to encourage you in areas! I just joined this group a few days ago & SO worth it!! have a GREAT week & know many out here care what you are going through.
