What are the pros & cons of taking GALVUSMET 50/500 daily?

Galvusmet is a combi of Vildagliptin and metformin.

Vildagliptin helps your pancreas to produce insulin and so indirectly it is an insulin secretagogues....

Metformin is an insulin sensitiser which helps in proper utilisation of the insulin so that blood sugar is utilised by the body cells....

Vildagliptin is a newer class of drugs called Gliptin which belongs to DPP4 inhibitor , not yet approved by USFDA...though many countries like India, Europe, S korea have approved for T2 diabetes...

The other Gliptin called Sitagliptin is approved by USFDA...

The long term side effects of Gliptin is not yet established....as it is just 7-8 years old drug...

The pancreatic cancer called pancreatitis in few cases who used Galvus are under study....

Another side effect which is reported among some people with Galvusmet 50/500 twice daily is a skin blister disease , body itching , feet psoriasis like condition and a more severe form called Bullous Pemphigold...

You should be watchful... If you don't have these side effects, you may please do continue..

However, most of T2 diabetes is a lifestyle disorder which can be controlled by a proper diet, physical exercise... Lifestyle change ...

Members in this forum can be helpful by recommending you a proper diet and exercise plan...

Medication is the last resort which should be kept to the minimum level....

And that too the type of medication would depend upon whether your condition is predominantly IR- insulin resistance or you are predominantly insulin deficient.....

........Whether you are obese with excess blood insulin circulating in your body or whether you are lean and thin built , underweight with extremely low level of circulating Insulin in your blood.... Your age, since when you are having t2...etc.
