COST OF ROUTINE DIABETES CARE

If you have Diabetes for five years you would have spent around Rs 1,50,000 on diabetes treatment only. After 10 years you would have spent Rs 4,00,000 and after 20 years you would have spent Rs 15,00,000. The increase in cost with time is due to the increase in complications.

Hence every diabetic person should save a part of income to meet the expenditure for the treatment of diabetic complications such as heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, amputation of the foot, diabetic retinopathy and laser cataract eye surgery.

Insurance companies sometimes may not allow medical expenditure for diabetic complications.

These costs appeared to be realistic..In fact cost would increase ifcomplications become worse. I am diabetic for almost 30 years and maintaining HbA1c around 5.6 for last several years, by following LCHF and without any complications with minimal medications. In fact i am quite energetic even at age 68,and going office as an civil engineer working about 8-9 hours a day..Govt should reduce cost of medicines to affordable levels required for diabetes and allied complications.LCHF is way forward to control diabetes.

Advise that, one need not have stricter control over Hb1c, after age 65, is misnomer and Not well founded. In fact, blind following may cause enormous complications. Pls guide appropriate course as with Controlled A1c, even at 68 age, I am leading satisfactory and healthy life with some lifestyle changes and mild exercise like walking, and minimal medications like Metformin 500 (half-half-half)( total 750 gm) and some vitamins like calcium, vit D3,supradyn etc .. With control of carb intake and LCHF diet, have reduced my cost of medicine substantially. This is better way to lead satisfactory life with lower complications for a diabetic and reduce cost of medication.

Medication dosage units are very important!!!, microgram or milligram.

750 gm, it I a lot of heavy weight medication!

"one need not have stricter control over Hb1c, after age 65", where did this come from?

How are you controlling your blood test numbers? other members can learn from your knowledge!

Thanks.
