I have not undergone any kind of surgery in recently. But i have undergone TACE procedures for hepatocellular carcinoma in last week of April and May 2019. I will get isolated systolic hypertension in the hospital. This may due to white coat hypertension. My blood sugar also goes high because of hospital canteen food. Patients and bystanders are not allowed to bring food from the outside in the hospitals.

I get higher blood pressure before and during surgery and appointments. I was told not to take the blood pressure medication for the day of the surgery.

Yes, that's true. I have heard that saying being said here and there.
I have undergone surgeries for fractures. Even in the Hospital diet I used to avoid Carbs. And I have never had any problems. BP and Glucose some times will go up slightly.
Did you get anything from the doctor at the hospital to lower your blood sugars slightly?
a number of years ago i had a nose op in hospital and was told as i was diabetic the operation would be in morning however this wasnt the case and because i hadnt eaten anything and i took my normal insulin dose my blood sugars were hypo which got worse as day went on when i finally got to OR around 4 o'clock the surgeon wouldnt carry out op until my sugars had risen so they pumped me full of glucose . i did have the surgery much later . what the problem was none of my nurses had any training to treat diabetics so they just left me to my own devices if they had treated me properly my sugars wouldnt have got so low the surgeon was very annoyed not with me but the nurses assigned to me something i think changed for the better at this hospital and i hope my next visit will not be so dramatic
Sorry you didn’t have any Nurses trained for Diabetes care during a surgery. That’s not good for anyone— or the hospital. I was told that I was supposed to lower my dose before bedtime shot and do nothing the day of the surgery since I had nothing to eat until I got home.
i was told at pre op day to take my normal doses of insulin but dont have breakfast as operation would be in morning i did send in a letter of complaint but nothing came of it
That’s good that you sent a complaint to the hospital. I told the hospital staff what my Endocrinologist suggested for me to do before my surgery. Please let us know what you find out soon.
