IT IS SNACK TIME!

One question that I always faced was as to what to eat for a snack in the mid morning or in evening without disturbing the BS levels.I found a very common traditional dish that is easy to prepare, delicious and rich in fiber and other nutrients. It is boiled chickpeas nicely seasoned with little oil, mustard seed, curry leaves ,little salt, cut pieces of garlic, green chillies and if like some pieces of ginger. You have to soak the chickpeas overnight and pressure cook them.A small cup of this dish is filling and wards off hunger for at least a couple of hours. You can certainly keep this dish as one of the choices for snacking. The link below gives you details of nutrition value of chick peas.

Chick peas are good.

In UK, there is a 400 g tin pre cooked chick peas, drained weight 200 G.

Carb 30 g. Fibre 7g, protein 15g

May be it is best to without any other additions!

Do we need to snack? Do we need to add milk and sugar to tea?

I tried to drink tea without milk and sugar, also go without snack.!!, can be difficult.

I work part time, 7- 3 PM, most of the time on my feet, moving parcels from 2kg to 20 kg.

Plain tea at 0630, 1/2 English at 0930, tea again at 1230. Work finishes at 3PM.

To start with this was difficult. Now I am OK, dinner at 18:30 what ever has been prepared.

THe next day the same, I only work two days a week, basic minimum hourly rate, this work is to keep fit and brain operation functions, Not every body can do this.

I receive regular emails from healthline and also from many other places including Howard medical.

I always like a good discussion for every member you benefit.

Like I said,it can be a one of the good choices. As per snacking or not,it depends.I have lunch at 1.30 pm and dinner at 8.30 pm.It is rather difficult without a snack in between. Also,I only take only green tea, without sugar or milk.

But you can’t have them daily. Further it may be heavy for some people. Besan chilla is the best for snacking. Again one should have variety otherwise we get bored with same stuff.

It can only be one of the safe choices occasionally. If it is not suitable, best avoid it.

How many hours after you had the food, you checked your BS level?

Is it the same with other food and drinks?

sandybrown ,

I checked my spike at 70-75 minutes(usual max spike approx.)

When i have the boiled peanuts(same quantity), my spike is around 100 mg/dL. When i have my dinner( 2 emmer wheat chapatis), it spikes to around 140-145 mg/dL and PPBS settles to around 125-130 mg/dL.

Therefore pea nuts are better!

I have look for uncooked or unroasted pea nuts in UK.

You're welcome. Boiled organic peanuts work best. Please look out for roasted peanuts that does not contain any taste enhancers. Cheers.
