Study:Triglyceride levels affect glycemic control in Diabetes...

Chinese researchers evaluated 20,108 patients with type 2 diabetes from the Mainland China National HbA1c Surveillance System cross-sectional study and found those who had higher triglyceride levels had an increased prevalence of inadequate glycemic control, compared with those who had lower triglyceride levels. The findings were published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

It is said that elevated tryglyceride levels can impair the glycemic control and by lowering the tryglyceride levels glycemic control can be achieved . It seems to be a reasonable argument. Then a natural conclusion should be that a high fat intake over and above the need would lead to high tryglycerides level in course of time , though initially it may not result in that . That proves the point that any thing in excess whether carbs or fats would result in high tryglycerides unless excess is burnt with extra physical activity . In such a case what is the position of aged people who can't take extra physical activity to burn the extra energy .

Both high blood sugar and high triglycerides levels lead to cardiovascular diseases. Being diabetic, we should keep these levels in healthy ranges to avoid all sorts of complications. Eat less carbs can bring down TG levels based on my experience. Not sure whether other low-carbers would experience the same. As long as we avoid transfats and highly refined food/sugar in all forms. I don't believe in low fat diet but do eat saturated fats and polyunsaturated fats in moderation and increase amount of monounsaturated fats. For older people or those who can't do much physical activities, eat less calories foods especially getting most calories from vegetables, fruits and nuts (low GI) would help.

That tryglycerides' level comes down with high carb low fat diet is my observational study . Like you said it may be different in different cases . But highly refined floured roties , sugar in junk food , syrups , diet colas , juices , bakery products should be avoided at any cost by all people . Rotis made with whole grains ,vegetables like potato , sweet potato , fruits like banana , Jackfruit , guavas , dates &grapes need not be avoided considering the nutritive value .All fruits are not same . The equation is between calorie consumption and energy expenditure and it is same in case of any food whether it is high carb or high fat .

@ coffeeday2017..I suppose high amount of Insulin Resistance and high amount carb intake enhances TG. High fat intake is really not responsible for higher TG...I have been following LCHF for last 5 years, due to which my A1c has settled around 5.5,Lipids including TG has reduced and these are within normal limits. I had to stop statins since 2 years.My diabetic medicines have reduced substantially and are very meagre with onlyMetformin1/2-1/2-1/2.I am sure TG and LCHF are interrelated.Even Intermittent fasting too is related with this as,such fasting brings down both TG and Blood sugar levels.

High carb intake is also not responsible for enhanced TG levels . Excess carb intake is responsible for that . The same holds good in case of excess fat .With out any medicines either for high tryglycerides or high blood sugar levels , or BP , only with changes in the quality and quantity of food intake with right amount of physical activity normalcy in health parameters can be restored .clinical evidences are not the only proof . Practical experiences establish the same if one tries sincerely Modern medical system together with the ills of modern science &technology has created this phenomenon of autoimmune diseases . But we have to give the devil it's due as there are some advantages along with the ills .

I was wondering what do you mean between high carbs and excess carbs. What if a diabetic person who has high levels of both blood sugar and TG, what he or she should take either high carbs, excess carbs or low carbs.

High carbs means Hclf where as Lchf is a very well known diet program recommended of late . what I mean by excess carbs is even in Hclf , the intake should not go beyond the allowable limit of calories . Hclf predominantly consists of a range of 55 %:30% :15 % -------- CARBS , PROTEINS AND FATS with little variation . The entire package should not exceed the allowable calories. Any person with high levels of BS AND BG can take the diet subject to the maximum calories of 1400 in case of woman and 1600 in case of a man (per day ) with sedentary life style .The calorie intake can be increased with an increase in physical activity subject to a maximum of 1800 calories in case of woman and 2000 in case of a man . Beyond these levels literally any excess food causes the intake of excess carbs . What I meant excess carbs is all other carbs which get accumulated in the body which are taken due to food cravings . Low carbs mean the low percentage of carbs advocated in LCHF . A balanced diet consists of 55% carbs , 30% proteins and 15 % fats . Here the percentage of carbs include , hidden carbs in proteins , vegetables , fruits and curds also apart from the major percentage got from cereals and whole grains . In a diet of 1400 caloriea 55% comes to 190 gms . In that direct carbs from grains , cereals could be 100 gms . The rest all come fruits , curds and milk, pulses , nuts , vegetables etc . But these all items give sumptuous and filling meals . In lchf . fats , though said to be good fats amount to 70 % ,which is rather difficult to take for too long . Of course time will tell what is good in the long run .Even these carbs also , now a days it is insisted , to go for millets of various types .

Thanks coffeeday2017 for your explanation. Choosing the right diet that suits a person's health conditions is crucial. I wish I could intake the balanced diet that high in carbs and could maintain a healthy BG and TG levels. But this will not happen as we do have insulin resistance issues unless a person is using antidiabetic drugs. A common sense is that if our system has trouble clearing carbs due to IR, eating less carbs would be definitely beneficial.

In the bigining one does not know whether there is insulin resistance . So the minute they come to know about IR they can drastically reduce their food intake . Usually people eat too much with out their knowledge , Each and every item which goes in to mouth . contributes to the accumulation of calories . cool drinks , chips , juices , chocolates , pastas , pani puries , biscuits , other junk food ---- the list is endless . By the time they realise the harm , it is almost irreversible . They are forced to go for the prescribed medicines. one thing leads to another . A medicine given for one ailment creates another problem with out their knowledge . Thus it is a vicious circle.once one gets in to the grip of diabetes one never comes back to normal state . It sounds harsh to hear but it is a fact . At least future generations should get free from the curse .

For a diabetic having IR, intake of calories is really not a major concern vis vi a carb intake.. in such a condion 55% of carb is not only detrimental but will cause irreparable damage to many organs like retina, kidney ,nerves etc..This amont of carb will worsen lipids and hence vascular system..

Quality rich food which does not have empty calories but which is filled withall the nutrients in vitamins , minerals , fibers , good fats , does not cause any damage to any organ . The intake of such food ensures good health with out any supplements , medicines , tables or tonics . There is no need to go for any remedies for any problem or even insomnia .
