Reduce your carb intake and walk for 45 minutes in morning and evening daily without fail. If your sugar level is high, take metformin as prescribed by doctor.

Knowledge is the first line of attack against diabetes. There are any number of reputed websites that give valuable guidance about managing diabetes.By using the search function on this blog site, you can access numerous posts shared by diabetics and professionals on every conceivable subject related to diabetes.Do not know why you have set your mind against metformin,a relatively safe medication routinely prescribed for all diabetics.

Thanks for your response. The reason I don’t want to take metformin as of yet is that I find that it mask the condition and does not cure. (Not that diabetes is curiable) but I have been reading a lot and they say it is reversible. I am trying to see if that’s possible . I guess if it’s not than I won’t have a choice but to start taking the medicine.

I respect your views and wish you all the best.To my knowledge, diabetes may be kept in abeyance by extraordinary efforts for varying lengths of time but as you advance in age and due to unforeseen circumstances,it may rebound.Advisable to keep monitoring regularly and keep the sugar levels within range by whatever means because that is the only option.

Hello Ron and welcome to DI forum.

As a new diabetic, good understanding about the causes, conditions and options of treatment from your doctor is important. It depends on current situation of your BSL if it's extremely high, your doctor may prescribe for you some medication to bring down the level. If not some doctors may encourage patients to try controlling with lifestyle changes for short period of time and review the result. If you could do it naturally you don't have to worry but you do need to carry on with healthy lifestyle.

My A1c was 230. I know with some reading although that’s high but not as high as others that I have read. I have totally changed my diet without taking prescription medicine and have been able to lower my sugar to 111 but at times it sores to 172. Not sure how bad that really is . But what I notice is that every morning it ranges between 126 to 149. And I make sure at night I eat a low carb rich in fiber food like speghetti squash with tofu or zucchini mixed with avocado sauce. I do not want to give up the meats in its entirety. But thought I try the vegetarian lifestyle for a bit

Figure 230 was it PPBS? You seem to determine not to use medication to lower BS. It should be fine if are able to control BSL with diet and exercise.

FBS 126 - 149 is still high though.

The advisable range of BSL:

FBS 100 max

PPBS 140 max after 1 hour;

and 120 max after 2 hours

Do not be too much stressful with these numbers. Be patient and try to eliminate all high carbs, high refined and high sugary foods and drinks. Learn more about Glycemic Index & Glycemic Load as well as counting CARBS each meals.

I will suggest you not to take alopethic medication as you have diagnosed recently, yes you are right go for holistic. You can try ayurveda and also follow LCHF diet. God bless.

Hello Ron,

I do not understand why you should not eat meat. You should consider Ketogenic/LCHF diet which will help lower your blood sugar numbers. Please see my recent post:

healthunlocked.com/diabetes...

The diet is reasonably flexible once you know your tolerance to carbohydrate and accordingly you can fix your daily carb allowance. Please let me know if you have any question.

Ron. Welcome to the forum.

Managing D has 4 stages.

1) motivation.

2) determination

3) understanding D

4) family help.

First know your D. Get lab reports and sonograms done.

D is not curable but reversible. The principle of managing D is "avoid what you can't digest / metabolise / clear from your blood i. e. Carbs. " Avoid carbs in any form and to the extent possible. Choose from extreme keto ( carbs less than 20 g ), moderate keto ( upto 50g ) and lchf ( upto 100 g ) carbs per day.

Gud luk.

Thanks for the advice. I guess in the begginnig it’s tough counting carbs especially when eating out.

Very difficult. Please buy a kitchen weighing scale and use fatsecret to count your carbs. It's really very difficult. Many items we think have little carbs turn out to be having more carbs. Also you would exactly know how much food you are consuming weight wise. You will be surprised to know how much more you would be eating without a weighing scale.

Type 2 diabetes can be controlled by low carbohydrate diet and aerobic exercise during initial stages.
