Hi friends,

Could you please give your opinion if the following numbers will pose any risk of diabetic complications:

Fasting: 110 -120, maximum recommended is 100 mg/dl

Post -meal(2hr): 130 or less. Maximum recommended is 140mg/dl

HbA1c: 5.8%, maximum recommended is 6%.

There is no risk factor for diabetic complications at present.

In the mean while, you should undergo other medical tests periodically.

A: HbA1c. HbA1c is a lab test that shows the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the previous 3 months. It shows how well you are controlling your diabetes.

B: Control your high Blood pressure, if any. Normal blood pressure- <120/80 mmHg.

C: Control your blood Cholesterol: Normal cholesterol < 200 mg/dL. LDL <100 mg/dL HDL > 40 mg/dL Triglyceride < 150 mg/dL.

D: Diabetic education. Dental check-up should be done in every 6 months.

E: Eye examination for glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and cataract.

F: Foot examination

G: Glucose monitoring. Fasting or postprandial blood sugar may be checked daily and avoid foods that elevates blood sugar.

H: Health maintenance immunization against influenza and pneumococcal pneumonia.

I: Indications for specialty care. Heart, kidney, thyroid and eye should be checked periodically by concerned specialists.

* Overall, the risk for death among people with diabetes is about twice that of people of similar age without diabetes.

* Adults with diabetes have heart disease death rates about 2 to 4 times higher than adults without diabetes.

* The risk for stroke is 2 to 4 times higher among people with diabetes.

Yes, I read your Glycomark text. Unfortunately, it is currently not available in my area. However, in my case, following on LCHF, blood sugar level does not bounce very much. It is reasonably stable. Moreover, I eat only one meal, therefore, blood sugar does not get many opportunities to dance around. I am more concerned about lipid profile because of extreme dietary changes that I have made. I will get those answers in the month of Dec.

Thanks for your reply. Currently, I am in weight loss phase. Once I achieve the target weight, I will increase my calories intake by increasing fat intake. The purpose of one meal a day is not to restrict calories but give body more time to repair the damaged tissues and also promote growth hormone regeneration.

Fully agree with you that we do not count calories because it is highly unlikely to overeat. we get satiated without eating too many calories.

Glad to hear that. I could never guess that from your picture. Congratulations.

Probably Dr. Steven Phinney's presentations uploaded on Youtube.

Hi. CICO / net balance of calories matter. Perhaps. High Fat = High Satiety may not be entirely accurate.
