skepticism about "diabetes cure programs"

I am bit skeptical with these type of "cure programs" -

1. I feel this is not a cure at all, they will tell to be on strict diet (plant based food, lot of health shakes, no animal milk, etc). If you are on this diet and your sugar is in control then it means that you are "controlling your diabetes" through diet and lifestyle modifications. It is not exactly a "cure".

2. A person is said to be "cured" only if he was diabetic before and after a "treatment", he should eat anything he wants (unlimited sugar, unlimited junk food) and still his sugar levels should come normal.

Is there any such example? Please let me know.

3. I also feel these programs are just to make money exploiting diabetes patients who are already in trouble.

4. I won't say that don't go for these programs, but I am against the programs to use the word "cure" just to draw more attention.

WHEN I WAS IN US I MET ONE SRIMADHAVAN AN AGRICULTURAL SCIENTIST AT EAST GREENICH RI. HE HAS PRACTISED AND PUBLISHED AN ARTICLE IN AMERICAN SCIENCE JOURNAL HE SAID THAT HE WAS A DIABETIC FOR 10 YEARS HE CAME OUT OF DIABETICS BY TAKING UNCOOKED RAW VEGETABLES AND FRUITS FOR TWO YEARS CONTINUOUSLY AND HE DID NOT BREAK IT FOR ANY REASON .HIS BS LEVELS WERE IN THE ORDER OF 180 TO 200 FASTING AND 250 TO 260 PP BEFORE STARTING THIS SELF THERAPY.BUT AFTER THAT HIS BS STOOD STEADILY AT 80 TO 100 AND 100 TO 125 .AFTER WARDS HE IS A NORMAL MAN AND TAKES FOODS LIKE OTHERS THIS ATTRACTED COMMENTS AND THE MAIN ONE READS THIS CAN HAPPEN TO ANY ONE PERSON BASED ON HIS BODY METABOLISM AND WE AGREE BUT THIS CANNOT BE GENERALISED.

There is no cure for diabetes. It can only be managed at acceptable levels.I feel that even if someone attends these "cures",they should be careful and monitor their sugar levels constantly. But ,best is to ignore them.

With diet control, proper exercise and medication, the sugar level could be contained. There is no magic or shortcut cure for diabetics.

There is no term as "CURE" as regards Type-2 diabetes,it can be controlled with in parameters of laboratories tests done, with Diet,Exercise and drugs if required.

Hi,

I am a new diabetic patient and see word "cure" in more optimistic way.

The way I see it, that it takes sometime(could be in years) to become diabetic, by eating huge amount of sugar, junk food etc.

One thing here to understand is that for Type-II diabetes, our pancreas is still producing insulin, it's just our body have become resistant to insulin and does not take glucose out of our blood. So we can say there is an imbalance in our body.

To repair the system(not saying treating or curing), the first thing to do is to control you diet. This way we are not over burdening our body with sugar. We already know we can't handle sugar and carbohydrates right now so first reduce it's input.

We must understand that our body is designed to self heal, but only when conditions are right.

So to achieve the balance again, you will have to watch out your diet for years. It's not a magic bullet which will cure you in 1 or 2 months. But if you are willing and motivated enough, and can continue your diet control, your body will respond to this positive approach.

The reason I am writing this is based on my own experience. In beginning, when my diabetes was diagnosed, I could not even handle 2-3 whole wheat rotis eaten with lauki. My PP reading were in range of 200+. But through rigorous diet control, I body started responding. I lost almost 7 kgs. Now my fasting sugar has come down to 102 from 127. and PP readings remain within 130 range, without any medicine.

Now everyone can say, that with rigorous diet control, these reading are nothing. But what if I tell you that I took these reading after eating Jalebi, Barfi , rice etc. I eat either a sweet or rice once a day, along with roti, vegetable, dal and curd. And still keep my sugar under control without any medicine. And all this in just 3 months. I don't eat rice regularly, but I do eat it once every 2 weeks just to keep track of response from my body.

I am still following my diet plan, and making progress as days are passing. What I am hopeful is that one day, I will be able to eat normally.

I may not want to go back to my old days where I would eat large amount of junk food and sweet, but I would certainly hope to be able to eat 2-3 piece of sweets without worrying about my sugar, or have a burger when I go out with my friends and family.

And to me, 2-3 piece of sweets is nothing short of cure, when I the beginning I thought I could never even touch sweets in my life.

This is just my view and experience so far. I don't want to offend anyone, or want to change opinion.

But just wanted to share it with everyone, that there is still hope for all those people who like to eat and live normally. Based on your body condition, it could be possible that you have to wait longer but rest assured that your body will respond.

Thanks prashantsa for sharing your inputs. I too believe that body can heal itself if right conditions are provided. I am also following your approach to control diabetes. (I am 28 years diagnosed with type 2 diabetes from last 6 months). When diagnosed my FBS-PPBS : 180/320. I started to follow exactly like you did, lost 10 Kgs (70 to 60). Now after 6 months without medication and after having 2 scoops of chocolate ice cream on V-day my 2 Hr BS was 124!! It seems like my approach is working for now. But I won't call it a "CURE" :)

there are sweets that have good fruit bases like "raw chocolate cake" which is made with dates, cocoa and nuts or seeds. walnuts are the best but even sunflower seeds or sesame seeds can be used. but before you go back to sweets watch this video. it is a research project on diabetes and proves that we can reverse diabetes with effective guidance and effort. my brother is now always in perfect condition. He looks great, feels great and has lots of energy to boot. good luck and healthy living
