My mother is 76 and takes insulin. But she is also on so many pills each chasing the side effects of the others. Recently this came to a head as she was prescribed amlodipine which made her legs swell up. She complained, and the kidney doctors told her to come off amlodipine but the GP would not take her off it. She got stasis dermatitis on her swollen legs which became a horrible leg ulcer. She took herself off this pill her legs deflated and the ulcer got better after a load of antibiotic treatment and two weeks of terrible pain. Has anybody else had this reaction? Is anyone else worried about the sheer number of pills that are being consumed by the older generation?
