Some advice please.

Hi, I am new here and my name is Simon and 35 years of age.

I have recently recieved a letter from my consultant cardiologist regarding results of various tests I have recently had at ST Bartholomews Hospital.

In the letter is states the findings as the CT scan showing severe ductal coarctation with a severe hypolastic isthmus. I also have a Biscuspid valve with moderate regurgitation. On echo it showed my aortic root to be dilated at 52-58mm.

The letter also states obvious radiofemoral delay and reduced pulsation in my femoral artery.

Blood pressure was 215/110 mmHG in right arm. I have been taking 10mg of amlodopine and 10 mg of Ramipril but it doesn't seem to be reducing my blood pressure a great deal.

Reason for my post is the letter doesn't really tell me anything about if I am going to require any kind of surgery. Basically all these big words have worried me slightly and if anyone can put my mind at rest I would be most grateful.

I have very high blood pressure too. I take 10mg of enalapril with diuretic and it seems to do a good job. You could possibly ask your doctor I have no idea. Hope you start feeling better.

Thanks Parkie. I'll try to get an appointment with my doctor next week, hopefully have better success with some new medication. All the best.

Hi SIMON8234,

I agree with parkie13. Enapril does have good results, but it depends on the person. Not all medications are right for everyone. This is the same as in a diet may be good for one person, but not for the next person. Please let us know what you find out soon.

Simon, your results say basically you have a enlarged aorta due to blood pressure. The rest is a profile supporting it. to me it looks like surgery is not needed if you get blood pressure under control. I had a aortic dissection due to afib and hypertension 2 years ago and im 37. This is based on my experience. I'm not a doctor but read a ton of these reports with my cardiologist to better understand me. Keep us posted. Thanks
