Hi , I am 42 and suffering from diabetes from last 10 years, my fasting is 139 and after food is between 200 to 250, is there any remedy to stop burning sensation on foot, (it feels like 1000's of needle is been poked from inside foot). I took many different allopathy (nurokind plus , caldikind plus, etc.) medicines but still haven't found permanent cure but one thing i understood, through allopathy there is no cure nor relief from pain but surviving worst than a sick man, forcefully I have to take allopathy medicine due to family. i take glimpride 1 mg & madhunashini before breakfast, madhunashini before dinner and glucopage 1000 mg after dinner if anyone has better solution then PLEASE share with me.

You are suffering from diabetic neuropathy which is result of prolonged exposure to high blood sugar levels. To bring it under control you need to control your BS levels. And to lower BS levels first priority should be to lower carb intake. Normally after reduction in carbs in most of the cases there is improvement in BS. Your recovery of neuropathy depends on how long you are exposed to high BS and how much damage it has caused to the nerves. When you reduce your carbs you need to monitor BS levels as you are taking insulin secreting drug. (glimepiride). According to BS readings drug adjustment will be needed otherwise you may experience hypo.

Thanks Shrisamarth, I am taking tablets but can you suggest whether tablet is better or insulin injection ?

Insulin is better option but for that you need to consult a doctor. But before that why not try diet changes? Restricting carb is best course of action for controlling BS. You may not need insulin if you are able to lower your BS through diet.

Diabetic neuropathy is a difficult condition to treat. Prolonged hyperglycaemia is the cause of nerve damage.

As already suggested go for reduction in carbohydrate in your diet as quickly as possible. But don't expect miracle, it will take time. Mean while get HbA1c done,it will help your doctor in adjustment of medicines. You might start Alpha Lipoic Acid 300 mg or 600 mg which suits you. But it has some side effects also ,so please read about it and with consultation with your physician you decide.

Check on Alpha Lipoic Acid here, from the person who spoke of Alpha Lipoic Acid for the first time here on this blog more than a year back:

But, get your sugar levels down and best way to do it LOW CARB HIGH FAT Diet. You can only manage DNP through tight control on sugar levels, and both FBS and PPBS in your case are very high.

The nerve damage up to certain level can be reversed by reducing BS levels to near normal. But if the damage is chronic then there is possibility that it can not be reversed.

Dr. Bernstein says that damaged nerves may regenerate but the recovery will be slow depending on individual condition only after normalizing BS.

BTW what are your current BS levels?

@NileshBarbhaya -- Mere reduction in carbs may not mean much in long-term unless you start counting carbs and restrict to 20% of calorie intake.

How we can count 20 % calories intake ?
