There must be a good reason why the doctor prescribed insulin and not tablets.Better follow the doctor's advise. Also, insulin has very little side effects unlike oral drugs.

Sorry about the condition Jamie186, my Mother has the type 2 also, she has been on Tablets since 1999, but now Doctors have put her to Insulin Injections. Just want to ask, are there any special foods you eat?

Hi sorry about that, pressed the wrong button Since the diet, I was put on Metformin 850mg, and Gliclazide 50 MG and my blood suger's have been fine since between 50 to 70 after fasting,

I have problems with my legs becoming swollen and breaking out in water blisters, but apart from that, I'm fine.

Metformin is the most common medication for type 2 diabetes, so I cant understand why your mums GP has,en't tried these. It's obvious he does not consider they are suitable, but you could always chat to your GP, there's nothing to lose.

Anyway I wish your mum all the best, and I hope the diabetes is kept under control.

Best wishes

Jamie

Likewise. There's no special food for diabetes. Just less sugar and look on the packet! there's a lot of hidden sugar in lots of processed food. Even if it says low sugar on the packet/can.

Also SEE GP. They are better judge than us. I started control by diet and now on metformin. There is a good reason for insulin jabs. Your mum's sugar numbers look a little high.

Diabetes is less deadly in itself than it used to be but if she loses consciousness, she won't wake up without help. That's not as bad as it sounds, I don't mean to worry you, but insulin ids part of careful control. :)

I have type 2 diabetes and also take Lantus at night. I also take Gliclazide tablets during the dat - 4 X 80mg tablets. There has to be a reason why your mum was prescribed the insulin, Lantus is a long acting insulin that stays in the body for 24 hours as a form of back up insulin.

If you're not sure check with your mum's doctor to see if there is any chance she could swap the insulin, but I have to say I've had no problems with it. Good luck XXX
