Diabetes is not a disease but a metabolic disorder.When we consume food,our digestive system converts the food,particularly carbohydrates that you find in wheat flour.rice,fruits etc,into glucose,Glucose enters the blood stream and reaches all the body cells which converts glucose into energy so that all our body functions can be carried out.But,for the glucose to enter the body cells from the blood stream,you need an enzyme called insulin that acts like a key to open the cells so that glucose can enter.This enzyme insulin is made by a gland in our body called pancreas. In some people,mostly due to genetic reasons, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or the insulin produced is inadequate for the body's requirements.So,when we eat food it gets converted to glucose but cannot enter the body cells because there is no insulin or it is inadequate.Glucose level in the blood stream rises but you feel weak though you have eaten well.This condition is called diabetes and it is very harmful in the long run.
