I have just been prescribed sertraline for depression. Would anyone be able to advise how they felt on this drug and whether it is effective

yes its a commonly used drug, with low side effects. I'm not aware of any side effects. You can type it into the search box top right and you will see many other posts about this. 2279 posts to look through!

yes .I have been on it since last June. did take a good 6 weeks and dose adjustment. I did have a rash for a week or so but that was it and yes ....I feel so much better!!

Hi after trying 2 different ad's I finally settled on sertraline 7 years or so ago. I started on 100 mgs then went up to 150 a few months later and they really help me. The only side effects I get are a bit of a dry mouth and bad dreams. It's a good trade off.

I hope they are as helpful for you. x

I have tried it twice. First time got up to 150mg. It seemed ok.

The second time I couldn't handle the side effects. I felt like I was on speed or something that made me feel like my eyes were on stalks. Lost my appetite and a bit of nausea.

I am sure any possible side effects will be short lasting. A friend of mine found it very good for her depression with anxiety.

My mum is also on 100mg seemingly without any side effects apart from a little insomnia at the start of treatment.

From what I know of it, it is gentle and effective as an antidepressant.

Best wishes, much love ❤️

What mg daily do you take and have you got a formal diagnosis, as in what area of depression are you, sertraline I would never go near again,

Im starting on 25mg for a week then going up to 50mg. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago with mild depression I think. I am the same with Fluoxetine

Hiya. I was on 200mg for anxiety/depression/ptsd for the best part of 2 years. I am currently down to 100mg. As someone else has already said my 2 main side affects were a very dry mouth and very vivid dreams, but I was in a total mess so this was a small price to pay to calm me down. Setraline is being hailed as the cleanest antidepressant because of its low side effects...I had no serious issues with it but it does take a few months to get into your system so hang in there if it doesn't kick in as quickly as you'd like.

I've been on setraline a few years now, the only thing that I could say is a sort of side effect, that is, when you start them, make sure you take them every day. If I miss just one, even an hour after the last tablet runs out I hit rock bottom, cry about my husband checks to see if I've taken it, I take about 28 tablets a day and I sort them into little medi pots, but sometimes a tablet gets stuck in there and I don't take it, or I'm in a lot of pain and can't get to my tablets. So my advice, it's a good anti depressant, but only if you take it every day, don't forget to take one. XxxAnnxxx
