Hi sometimes depression will go away of it's own accord,  but many times it doesn't.  Why don't you want medical help?   Wouldn't you seek that if you had a physical illness or would you sort out and set eg a broken leg by yourself?

If you keep trying to change and failing and think everyone is lying to you then it sounds like the negative thoughts and feelings of depression.   It sound like meds and/or counselling could help you.   If you don't want to go through the NHS why not seek counselling out for yourself privately?  Mind you it will cost quite a lot but if you have the money to spend and want to why not?    x

Happiness is transitory, it comes and goes. No one is happy all of the time except the mentally deficient. There are many solutions for depression but you need to find out what kind or degree of depression you have before you can treat it. You could have a hormonal imbalance or a thyroid problem. I don't think this is something you can do yourself until you get some guidance. People can give you all the information in the world, but you will have to do the work. It is insulting to those of us who are fighting depression to suggest that we are being lazy.

My current episode of depression was diagnosed by my GP before I accepted that it had returned. He tried different anti depressants and passed me to the mental health team who directed me into CBT. That didn't work. My suicidal thoughts were becoming more frequent as was my self harming. Eventually I was referred to the psychiatric team where my medication has been changed until I stabilised.

Alongside this I have started colouring books and really enjoy it. But my best treatment is peer support. I am not ashamed to admit that I have depression and I don't suffer or fight depression. Once you can accept your illness you can start to recover. If you can't talk to your GP see someone's else in the practice, perhaps a nurse practitioner if there is one. Don't be afraid of medication it is different from librium or valium and can help calm you down .I wish you all the best in coming to terms with your illness. Let me know how you get on
