Valium will help but you need to help it. Slow deep Breathing, physical exercise whilst your panicking and taking on meditation practice and relaxation techniques. Try not to just ' reach for the pill' but get this thing under your control.

Best of luck

Hello Aussie

You will need to give Valium a chance to work, you need to taken them for a given length of time. You could try Relaxation techniques such as the Alexander Technique, or Wellness. If you are feeling that unsettled talk to your Family Doctor next week and He should suggest further ways of controlling your fears and anxiety.

Breathing techniques can help you, just sit in a comfortable chair and place your feet firmly onto the floor. Sit back into the chair and place your hands and arms on the arms of the chair. Feel the weight of your body as you push back into the chair and then loosen your shoulders and neck. Close your eyes and relax. Sometimes you may open your eyes slightly as you are relaxing.

One technique called the Maxwell technique, same as above allows relaxation in a busy room. I was trained in that method and can relax in a busy place, although this in an early stage is quite hard.

You know we are always here

5mg of Valium wont do nothing for anxiety its a very weak dose 5mg , thats like half a mg of ativan , and you need 1 to 2mg Ativan to help bad anxiety plus it works in 20 minutes , valium takes forever and just makes you sleepy , in other words crap

Hi I am surprised you were given valium as I didn't think they gave this out any more as it is one of the older drugs. There are lots of newer ones on the market which are better and less addictive. Go back to your doctor and discuss this. x

Thank you for your reply. The Valium takes the edge off, but only makes my mind constantly wait until I can take the next tablet incase I get a panic attack. I've been on them 2 weeks now. Such a hard battle :( I'm back to my dr this coming Friday, so hopefully we come up with something else. I'm a passenger in the car right now, and I can feel my anxiety coming on...it's so scary :(

valium is the least addictive , they get you off the stronger ones like xanax with valium tapers , it is addictive but not near has much has the new boys . I have been at one time on 40 mg Valium 3 times a day, Admitted i had been on 12 mg a day of Ativan after using a huge backlog of the med from repeat scripts. the 120mg of valium did not touch me after using ATIVAN 12MG the same strength has 120 mg Valium . some really ill people take really really high doses Valium every day, GOD know how they stay awake.

Oh I see manic I didn't know that. AllI know is what my doctor has said which is that they don't usually prescribe the older drugs like valium any more because of the addictive nature and the side effects. She said they use the newer ones because they are better.

I am only on sertraline which I guess isn't one of the strong ones you are talking about so I guess it would be different with me. x

sertraline is a anti depressant , valium xanax ativan are Benzos , totally different meds,

in reply to manic666

Aren't Benzos meds for depression then? Or for something else? I have been puzzled sometimes on seeing several folk on valium so I guess that explains it. I have learnt something new. Thank you. x

Try klonopin. It works much better and lasts longer

Xanax can calm you quickly without making you dopey, just an even, balanced calm. It doesn't take much. Breathing really works, concentrating something-reading, hobby, a walk....it let's me know all is well. Also, antidepressants at certain doses help depression AND anxiety.

very true XANAX the rock star drug they use it has a relaxant after coming off stage, and die a few year on, like Heath ledger the actor , loads of rock stars are rehabbed with XANAX . what is so shit is scripted BENZOS take years to detox , yet HEROIN can be detoxed at a centre in 7 days , its up to willpower after that
