I was told I had fibromyalgia after 6 years of being told there was nothing wrong I'm so angry and upset I know I'm being unreasonable with everyone around me I can't help myself I feel I'm in a long dark tunnel and there's no light at the end I just started counselling just hoping this will help

It is a tunnel, and yes it's very long and very dark. There is a light there, but you might not see it for a while. You will eventually though. Getting a diagnosis is a huge step in accepting how you're feeling. Take each day as it comes and don't expect too much of yourself.

There's little point in feeling angry at the time taken to diagnose your fibromyalgia. What's done is done and you can't change that. The only thing you have an influence over now is tomorrow. And the day after that, and the day after that. Focus on where you hope to be in a few months, and not on time wasted previously.

I'm sure the counselling will be hugely beneficial for you. You'll also find people on here to be really supportive. Some of the members of this forum are so nice and have helped me out of some very dark holes. Take care x

Hi there, Its good at least to be diagnosed. Once you know the problem you can start to work on things. Depression is not an easy journey, it has its lows and highs for sure. Is there any support group for Depression locally? Take things day by day, Eat well , get enough sleep and excercise, Try and stay connected to friends and family if you can, these all help, and make sure and keep your Doctor informed how your doing. Make a little plan for each day so you feel you are getting the basics done, that is reassuring. Depression can make you a great friend, as you will understand the pain of others. Dont be too hard on yourself.

Finally this Forum or Site is fantastic, everyone here is so kind and caring. Keep checking in and your will pick up a few little tips that you can mould to your ways. We are all

different, so what works for one will not work for another. Dont be afraid.

love.

Please grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

the courage to change the things I can,,, and the wisdom to know the difference,,,

I used to have to say this many many times a day in many situations,,, It worked for me.

Thank you all it's a horrible feeling at the moment I can't see a way out my family is very good and I have a couple of close friends I'm just finding it hard to talk about I've always been the listener never the talker

Hi

I can relate to that only too well. Also being the caregiver and not the cared for. Depression can turn your whole life upside down and yes, as others have said the light may seem very far away, even when you can see it.

Baby steps are good, as is some sort of routine...it is all too easy to forget about routines that you would do naturally before. Make little lists and tick off your achievements...even things like getting dressed, brushing your teeth etc.

Try to make sure that you eat as balanced a diet as possible even if you feel you have no appetite. Also try to keep occupied with simple things and not give your depression too much focus, whatever you do, don't brood on it or push people away.

Talking can be very difficult and it can be equally difficult to even pin down what you're actually feeling.

I used to draw 'bubble charts' with each emotion in one bubble e.g. anger, frustration, sorrow and then go a step further into why I felt like I did. Try and meditate on one a day or week if they're too bad and put them into perspective and let them float away. Yes, the feelings may return for another reason but you're focusing on finding a coping mechanism by doing this.

Good luck,

Lorraine

Hi,

Clinical depression can be treated. You need to seek treatment and at the same time adopt lifestyle changes that help in beating depression. What kind of lifestyle changes? Changes that have antidepressant effects on the brain. Like involving exercise in your routine. You may find it difficult but pull yourself and make a routine, Go for exercise for 20-30 minutes, any kind of physical activity. It has antidepressant effects. You need to take diet that helps in depression, like fish,it has omega 3 fatty acids they help in depression. You may take vitamins, lower levels of vitamin D are associated with depression. Take green leafy vegetables, they give folate and it helps in depression. If you are looking for instant relief, try emotional freedom technique. It is unique and research studies are proving it to be effective.
