not good

I think GPs vary. I've had some great GPs in middle class areas. Then I moved to an area that is more working class and find that although the GPS are nice enough they seem to expect patients not to have knowledge about illness and to accept meekly whatever they prescribe. They don't seem used to having equals as patients, so I've found that I've had to be a lot more assertive in asking to be referred to specialists. Also they seem less able to accept non-medical treratments e.g. prescribe antidepressants at the drop of a hat with no mention of the fact that their are alternatives such as counselling or therapy. I always think that's sad as people with less money may well feel over-stressed especially where there's high unemployment and a recession. I guess it all comes down to the postcode lottery and demand on services.

I have been very lucky with my GP he has been great and I see him once a month so that he can see how im doing.

My GP practice is marvellous. Although offered a hospital referral, I find that, with a nursing background, we can discuss everything, and regular visits to the same person are greatly preferable to infrequent visits and ever-changing psychiatrists, which my friends experience.

My Gp tries to help but doesn't have that expert knowledge. However, he referred me to a great psychologist and we seem to be getting somewhere, but slowly.

First they were good, but as time has gone by, I was going to a tribuneral and i saw my medical records, they have put depression when i was diagnosed as suffering SAD, in the winter months, I my gp ask when that was, I told her it was in the notes, by another older member of the sugery gp. Hense the report wasnt done for the tribuneral, how the hell are we to get it right if they cant. Were not allowed to complain to them.!!

I have said for years it seems to be, hormonal and nothing has been looked into, I dont know anyone who has felt suicidal the day bfore a period. And could map it out by my cycle, but no one has looked into that. I feel my life has been wasted and my kids are all going through it with the same symptoms.

I even asked for a tablet so that i dont have periods anymore,, she said it wasnt necessary and gave me a prescrition for a private patent,, i was trying to stop the mood swings,,, food cravings, ect. please suggest anything or anyone, I was told was suffering from sever pms. this is despite medication for depression.
