Some people!

Hi all, I really just feel like having somewhere to vent this morning. There's so many 'why's?. WHY do 'some' people who read my lapel badge when serving me in a shop/store (depending where you're from) then expect me to be able to lip read them while their head is bowed forward, reading out something??? WHY, do 'some' people, even when ASKED to 'please face me when they speak' say 'ok' and then turn their back on me when speaking to point something out? I have a choice of two lapel badges to assist those who are 'hearing' One say's "I'm a lipreader, please face me" and the other say's "I'm deaf, please speak clearly". Believe it or not SOME people will openly say that they have 'some basics' in BSL and while I'm thinking 'fab'! THEY then don't bother to even TRY and use it. I would relish it if they did and it would make things so much easier. Plus I live alone, My own BSL skills are rusty. I even helped to teach a friend who had asked me too and it still never gets used with me being expected to Lipread them all the time! Which, ok, would be fine IF they just stopped turning their face away when they speak :-( Rant over. Sorry peeps, luv ya all. x x x

Hi, good place to vent, most here understand your feelings. You mention lapel badges. I'm unsure if my mum would wear them but think they would be good for her, where are they from?. I'm constantly explaining to people when out with her.have a good weekend

They simply aren't educated on what it takes for a severely hearing impaired person to participate in a convetsation, and do well with it. It's a struggle everyday , everyone you come in contact with is a challenge. That's why my husband comes with me, even when we are grocery shopping. It's just to frustrating alone.

It drives me mad! I have been told I'm rude and a rude bitch etc because people have spoken to my back and of course I don't hear them! I have even been physically moved aside! By the same token I just do NOT want my gentleman friend always coming with me because that's NOT how it's suppose to be. I'm fiercely independent. :-((

That's you not me, I'm fine with it at this stage of my disease. I feel safe, that's what matters to me.😊

Very true but not for me. Ok for you is good but for me no. Even if it were my husband lol which would never be what I wanted I would still not be ok with it.

He's my husband, not just my friend. Big difference. Our lives, our choice

If you have a hearing impairment, your life will be full of challenges for you. We live in a hearing world, a place much different than our own. We can't expect the waitress or the pharmacist to know how to respond to us. That would be great if they did, but I know that's wishful thinking.

Great and such a true rant!!

I experience that all the time with my family and even my partner. Sadly there ignorant and don't fully understand cos they don't experience what we do!!

We just have to constantly keep reminding them. It's tiring but necessary!!

Stay strong 💪🏾 and keep focussed with your affliction your not alone!!! xx💜

Thanks, many think it will be easy, and that people should just know your deaf, if your not wearing a deaf shirt, only God would know. Which brings me to my next deaf adventure. Deaf shirts, coffee houses, ECT that identify us without saying a word. It will be fun as well as less stressful.

You never know, the fad may catch on. They have medical bracelets for all kinds of conditions that many people have never seen. What about a deaf medical bracelet? There's so many possibilities. Each country should have a community deaf education week. Featuring accommodations for the deaf just like the do for the blind. Funded programs should become of access for the deaf and their families. Giving them back the independence to thrive in a world we know not of.
