What is the safest and most effective CBD protocol for moderate PD? My Dad takes sinement and is reaching his bodies tolerance (sadly).

The past 3 weeks have been really tough -- my Dad's legs are locking up and he's having a hard time walking. This seemed to have worsened overnight.

I believe the right CBD protocol could lessen rigidity, improve calmness and increase mood (joy)...but I'm not sure what to recommend. Are there practitioners for this that specialize in PD and CBD? Do we try oils, patches, vapes, tinctures, gummies, and what ratio and what kind, etc.?

We live in CA where it is fully legal.

Did he increase his dose of sinemet recently? Does his rigidity occur around 90 minutes after a dose and more at the end of the day? That could mean he is taking too much. Or is it more like 3 1/2 -4 hours after the dose ?

Oh my goodness. YES! He did increase it and it does happen within 90 minutes. What should he do now, just revert to his original dosing?

I can only say what happened to my husband so I’m not qualified to say what you should do but returning to the previous dose helped my hubby immensely. We then just added an extra half 50/12.5 madopar instant release at nighttime.

Read this post my comments part way down from a while back as it goes through what happened

Also if you can’t get cannabis or he doesn’t want to take it you could try asking for a prescription for clonazapam and try taking it at a tiny dose. My hubby takes 0.5 mg cut up and spread over the day and that has reduced his anxiety which also helps with symptoms. The doctor thinks that low dose isn’t enough to do anything but it works for him.

If he is decreasing back to the original amount do it gradually. In my experience with hubby it is best to be on the minimum amount that he can still be functional and if increasing just add the smallest amount at a time and wait a few days to see if more or less is needed. Is he on other meds too ?

I have the same problems, and it does help to take my Sinemet at prescribed times. When my rigidity got bad, where my legs locked up, like your Dad’s, last year for me, the Neurologist upped my Sinemet dosage. That helped a lot! Also, range of motion exercises for arms and legs, each day, are important for me, to ease the cogwheel rigidity! I also have several pages of illustrated exercises, from my local Parkinson’s Chapter, that I do most days. These are specific light rxercises, designed especially for Parkinson’s patients!

hi dd;

Does your local chapter have the exercises posted that could be accessed? TIA BDSLD

Hi, I'm not sure. What site would I refer to for that? Sorry that I am likely asking a stupid question.

Yes! Glad to help, in any way I can! I got my exercise list from Parkinson’s Network North, P.O.Box 5734 Traverse City, Michigan 49696. Hettie Molvang-Contact . I picked up a list of exercises, printed out, on a table, at our last Parkinson’s Symposium Meeting and Fair, where info. was displayed! I’m sure Hettie could get you a copy! This is in the USA, by the way! State of Michigan! Traverse City Chapter!

When we were in Canada we found the people that worked in the cannabis shops were quite knowledgeable.

Just start slowly with low THC high CBD and try different options.

Back home in Australia I have been prescribed 100% CBD oil and take 1ml CBD before bed which, along with melatonin stops me thrashing around at night.

I sometimes take it in the day if I can’t stop writhing around or I am going into a stressful situation.

Hi, I am not too knowledgable about CBD products, but my local pot shop guided me to purchase CBG included with CBD products. If you look up CBG, if I remember correctly, there are studies that show the 'G' is helpful with Parkinsons.
