I can't find the right words

Grumpy77 profile image

Ouch my brain needs upgrading. So every now and then, I'm having conversations, nothing too technical, and I'm struggling to find the right vocabs for me to flow well. Initially my thoughts were "its nothing to worry about, everyone faces this problem at some point".

But then its happening more frequently for my liking. And also the big bombshell.... At one time when I couldn't find the right word (again) and I went on a long mental search for it. By the time I found it, I had forgotten my original line of thought ☹️. If it wasn't about MY brain... if wasn't so tragic... it would have been hilarious

Do I just need to train my brain better or do I need to take some supplements OR maybe both. So which brain training 'module' and supplements is best for PwP?

Interventions that have helped my condition. Implement these one at a time and see how one works before proceeding with the other:

• High-dose thiamine, courtesy of Dr. Antonio Costantini. Allow four months for full effect: highdosethiamine.org/

healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

• Cinnamon, extensively researched by Prof. Kalipada Pahan, PhD. Allow two months for full effect. My report healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

Thanks PB. I'm already taking HDT. I will now also try Cinnamon 👍🏿

Brain inflammation. Based off my personal experience, I would personally try taking a break from the following,

I never tell anyone what to do, only sharing what I personally have done.

starting with the most important cut out:

1 gluten

2 seed oils (all oil except olive oil and avocado and coconut oil)

2 sugar (any form of added sugar including honey)

3 all cow dairy (A1 cows is why)

4 all grains and legumes

Add :

Fermented food

Eggs for choline

Ghee

Omega 3 oil especially DHA - 1 gram a day minimum

MCT oil

As many non starchy veges as possible

Berries

I added back in dairy. Mistake. I’m cow dairy free again.

This has cleared my head and my thinking is clearer.

Hope it helps you too.

Have a great weekend!

What I’m personally doing which I’ve described above is very similar to the Wahls Protocol.

It seems like a good approach but when you have a husband with Parkinsons who has trouble keeping weight on it is a real challenge when you have to eliminate this/that/ and the other thing from the diet

MarionP profile image
MarionP in reply to Boscoejean

Well now ccrasperry has included oils that you can use and those are double the calories of proteins and carbs.

in reply to MarionP

I’ve gained back weight on this diet. I needed to, got too thin. Avocados, ghee , salmon, and I eat macadamia nuts (if I’m eating nuts)

Boscoejean profile image
Boscoejean in reply to

I do use these things it is still a challenge to not have him lose weight although I don't use salmon

in reply to Boscoejean

Well than how is he keeping weight on? If it’s with carbs that spike insulin that is not good. I would then add cream cheese (very low dairy protein but a lot of fat.) and goat and sheep cheese and yogurt (no added sugar)If all this fat and calories doesn’t keep his weight on then that is cause for concern imho.

Just my experience and opinion.

I actually do use the higher calorie stuff but it just takes one day of not having solid meals because he won't eat any snacks because he doesn't want to ruin the next meal

in reply to Boscoejean

Not having solid meals” that is relative. What is a solid meal? The diet I have described is followed by many thousands of people for brain health and autoimmunity. It is solid meals imho

To each their own as they say

"What is a solid meal"

Perhaps it means buying, preparing, and cooking real meals? :) Do you cook anything that you eat, CC?

Boscoejean profile image
Boscoejean in reply to Despe

I prepare nutritious meals since I have knowledge of nutrtion

Boscoejean profile image
Boscoejean in reply to Boscoejean

what I mean is that sometimes my husband will eat a smaller than usual breakfast then he will lose weight

My husband lost weight after Cleveland Clinic FM doctor put him on the keto diet. He lost 30lbs and that was great. However, he can't gain any weight now, and he really needs to gain some back.

in reply to Despe

Despe, of course I do. I cook from scratch for my family daily. We have no prepared foods in our house, none.

Oh, I was joking. However, except eggs, I didn't notice any food that needs cooking. Of course, if this diet helps you, that is great! :)

IMO, PwP need some animal protein for their muscles.

Thanks you so much Art. Those two threads are loaded with information relevant to what would be helpful for me. Just a quick glance for now and I'm reminded of the value of vitamin D for a healthy memory, Thank you 👍🏿

Bolt,

I believe that vitamin D plays a role in maintaining memory, preventing dementia and it is useful for many other health issues. I only combined it with Vinpocetine because I felt that most people can tolerate that dose range of 5000 IU to 10,000 IU and by combining with another supplement, reduced the total testing time of the regimen and potentially decreased the elapsed time to benefit. Imo, Vinpocetine stands on its own merits as far as memory enhancement. I linked to several studies regarding vitamin D and memory in Part 1.

Art,

I've been taking 5 mg Lithium Oratate since the post about your 78 year old friend and I believe it has helped me with Grumpy's problem of recalling forgotten words while speaking. Also, Grumpy, I just started taking 100 mg of Fisetin this week, too early to tell.

eschneid,

Thank you very much for the feedback! It is good to hear that one of the supplements, lithium orotate, has helped you improve your word recall! All of the 5 supplements are proven useful for helping improve memory in people and if one of the five supplements does not give complete recovery, you can add the other four as needed until you reach a satisfactory level of improvement.

I'm going to copy your post and add it to the original thread on memory improvement so more members might see it.

Are you socialising as much as you used to? I found over lockdown I wasn’t talking as much and I was feeling less able to find the words.

You're not too far off.... I need to expand beyond my closest pals and family, beyond my comfort zone. Perhaps that would challenge and awaken some rusty part of my brain

I was like this I knew the word but couldn’t say it (very frustrating) and the more I tried the worse it got. But then the Doctor changed my diabetes tablets [Metformin] and within days I was back to normal. So could it be any tablets that you are taking?

Sorry was your change to metformin, or away from metformin?

I was taken off Metformin sorry I didn’t make it clear.

First of all: "word-find" difficulty IS a totally normal symptom of aging. And it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with PD or dementia either.

But, it's also a side effect of some medications. Topiramate is a classic. I started taking topiramate in my 40's for essential tremor, and it was almost bizarre: Within a day I started to forget words like "computer" or "casserole"-- dumb things I said every day.

Now, since I still take topiramate AND I'm older, it's only worse. 😱

What do you take?

This sounds so familiar to me. Now, I have people filling in my words which comes with it’s own frustration. I can understand sitting back and getting quiet. I have thought of this as a positive perhaps, in that I definitely in my younger years was a better listener and in a way, this may be turning back the clock, haha 😂. Hoping you find peace in whatever form but if you find a solution please pass the info along.
