Repeating a question I read on a discussion of Mannitol. Sounds like something I should be taking...

Lots here about Trehalose: healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

I never reached a conclusion about Trehalose. I don't take it or Mannitol. I also have not been diagnosed with PD (I have REM Sleep Behavior Disorder AND a sore left shoulder).

Yikes... maybe not so fast. bottomlineinc.com/health/di......

***Maybe!!! As a supplement taken on empty stomach to be quickly be adsorbed into blood stream and not as a food for gut bacteria. It is digested... though not as fast as simple sugars.

They are very similar. Personally I think that both may be beneficial, but I feel a benefit from Mannitol and it is cheaper in the UK than Trehalose so will stick with that.

What I’m reading the mechanisms of action between Mannitol and Trehalose have nothing in common. Mannitol is not effective in most people. Hopefully, Trehalose will prove to be effective. alexask

I'd like to weigh in here. Mannitol works with the complement system. Trehalose works as a NMDA receptor blocker (antagonist).

I've been deep diving into NMDA receptor antibody pathways in cancer and neurodegenerative disorders since learning that I am positive for NMDAR Ab. I believe Trehalose is essential for treatment of neurological dysfunction along with multiple forms magnesium.

I have other radical opinions, but I'll save them for another post 😊

You are the first person I’ve encountered that agrees with me on this. Elated! I am using both mannitol and Trehalose bc they are not interchangeable. Regarding magnesium, can you share your preferred forms? Definitely essential! And, I’m very optimistic about my L-Serine research. I intend on posting about it soon.

A Google search will tell you magnesium L-threonate is the only mag that crosses the BBB. But, magnesium glycinate is recommended to help you sleep and therefore has to crosses the BBB too. I take magnesium glycinate swansonvitamins.com/swanson... which is currently out of stock so I ordered swansonvitamins.com/healthy...

Did you see my latest post on Trehalose healthunlocked.com/cure-par...

If you dig deeper, the research claiming that Msgnesium L Threonate crosses the Bbb is questionable. Rhonda Patrick discusses this. Thank you for the other mag recommendation! And Trehalose info

I believe Dr. Hyman or one of his colleagues has a supplement with 7 types of magnesium.

I love Simon! He always gets our hopes up until you read his conclusion:

"As always, I will report back here when new information comes to hand. A lot of people are looking at trehalose for various conditions, so there will certainly be a lot of new information in the near future."

Near future. . .4 years later, where is the new information??

The MJF study was funded in 2013 and I haven't found any further info yet. Who is Simon? Oh Simon wrote The Science of Parkinson's linked article.

Looks like MJF funded a study on Trehalose in 2013. Seems that would be long enough time to have some results.michaeljfox.org/grant/devel...

Trehalose is antifungal. Given recent research on fungal infections and PD, maybe it’s beneficial to take a small dose orally.
