Dang. I'm a year older than MJF and he does not expect a cure in his lifetime. Well.. it's not like he's surrounded by PD experts or anything.
There will be prevention before there's a cure, and the cure may never arrive.
That someone with access to all the intel does not think there's a reasonable prospect of a "cure" in the next 20 years (which I would think an optimistic projection of his lifespan) should not surprise.
Science is growing exponentially and doubles in size every 10 to 15 years. So let's see...
5 years and we will be looking better than ever. There might not be a literal cure but there will be therapies and treatments that will improve quality of life across the board.
Gene editing
Stem cells
Alpha synuclean antibodies
Repurposed drugs
New drugs
Insight to causation, early detection and prevention or slowing of progression
Other therapies such as fus and red lights, voodoo, magic, things yet unknown, etc.
I agree…medical science is changing really fast. Who knows what’s around the next corner? If we lose hope, we lose the battle.
