Proper Mannitol Dosing?

How much Mannitol are people taking please?

I've been adding a rounded teaspoonful of Mannitol to my Matcha Tea (with Ceylon Cinnamon) every day. Today somebody asked me how much I took and I realized I was winging it on dosing.

I see this person is taking a tablespoon a day: outthinkingparkinsons.com/a...

Maybe I need to increase?

Manitol made my symptoms worse. 1 tablespoon in your coffee was recommended. Looking forward to results of clinical study in Israel.

I have 12cc in a glass of water along with 15cc of L-Serine. Easy to drink. I posted links to pubmed and iHerb about them.

My husband started taking Mannitol about 1-2 months ago. Just taking 1.5 teaspoons daily in a cup of tea. Generally ease into new things slowly to see if any negative results. So far all good results (actually has facial expressions, smiles and a twinkle in his eye).

We use Mannitol.Balance. Here's the dosage they suggest:

Mannitol and Parkinson’s Disease Dosing Information

Mannitol is a powerful supplement that has helped many people with Parkinson’s disease. But, it affects each person differently, and no two individuals will suffer from the same symptoms or be affected by the treatment in the same way. So, each individual must find their ideal balance when it comes to making an effective plan.

A study involving a mice model used the following dosing schedule based on weight:

Body Weight (lbs )

Dose per day (gram/Oz)

77-90lbs

~5g /0.17 oz per day

91-109lbs

~6g/0.21oz per day

110-121lbs

~7g/0.24 oz per day

122-139lbs

~8g/0.28oz per day

140-153lbs

~9g/0.31oz per day

154-185lbs

~10g.0.35 oz per day

186-210lbs

~12g/0.42 oz per day

211-251lbs

~15g/0.52 oz per day

252-300lbs

~17g/0.60 oz per day

301-319lbs

~19g/0.67 oz per day

320+ Lbs

~20g/ o.70 oz per day. Above 20g per day, it may have a laxative effect

It is important to try and listen to your body in a way that is most suitable for you. Everyone is different. In some cases, people split the Mannitol dosage for morning and evening. There is no trend as to which way is better or more effective for Parkinson’s. Opinions are divided on this matter. Some take it alongside other medications, while others prefer it separately.

For quite a while I was taking one tablespoon in tea at bedtime. Currently I take one teaspoon in the morning and one teaspoon at bedtime. I weigh 104 lbs.

The initial research out of Israel suggested 1tbs. and no more. I got our pharmacist to check it out and he confirmed it (unless you weight is abnormally high).

Yes, I've read (doesn't appear in the info I cut and paste in previous comment) do not take any more than 1 tablespoon daily.

No, there can be a gas problem, so followed the instructions for that reason too.

Have you seen any improvements? Did you start with 1 TBS or ease into it?

We started with 1tbs. after getting our pharmacist to check the research.

The effect was almost immediate and dramatic, probably about a week in the cognitive area. See my post.

Hi, I’ve been taking a French brand of mannitol and what a difference!!! If I skip a dose it makes a HUGE difference in my day! Oddly enough, it also extends the life of meds! I’m blown away! I take 1 1/2 tsps in the morning with a half tab of 25/100 ER, 1 Amantadine, and 1 Mucuna capsule and my regular thyroid meds. Typically I can only go 3-4 hours before I need more meds, but after starting Mannitol my record this week was 12 hours without symptoms!! How does this happen!? The average has been 8-9 hours. I can tell you that I have IBS and ANYTIME I have ANY rumblings or if I’m hungry or have stomach distress, that’s when the tremors start, but I have no other symptoms and my current docs are unsure if I was misdiagnosed. My blood sugar is affected by the tremors too. Currently, mannitol is the bomb!!

FYI, when I first started it, the gas was awful and there was a laxative effect. Now it’s not so bad.

This is great news. But your current doctors are unsure of your PD diagnosis? That could be good news for sure.

True. There’s just a lot of things that don’t make sense. I started tremoring in 2015 and was formally diagnosed in 2017 but after going to Rochester New York earlier this year the doctor there said that I should’ve been far worse and would not have been able to do any of the physical tests as well as I did. Mind you I had taken a half a tab that day and 1 Mucuna. He said that better proof would be for me to go off any kind of PD medication a week prior to the next appointment which will be in January. But again after doing all the physical tests which took almost 2 hours, he was really scratching his head because he couldn’t figure out what was going on and is perplexed. The only other issue that I could see it could possibly be something called idiopathic postprandial syndrome. I came upon this because I always have the feeling of low blood sugar and yet when I test my blood sugar it’s fine and my A-1 C was deemed normal. The interesting thing is though that my fructosamine levels have been very very high and way out of range which is sort of a precursor to diabetes type 2. I also noticed that with a higher dose of Mannitol the tremors are not that bad and almost nonexistent but I think to do that on a daily basis I would have to take a lot more than one or 2 tablespoons a day. So I’m going with the regimen I have now to see where this all leads.
