Does dissolving C/L under the tongue give faster ON?

I saw these case reports:

medicinenet.com/carbidopa_w...

And it made me wonder, does dissolving C/L under the tongue get it into the bloodstream? From the case reports it seems so...

So why isn't it used more?

I just did a personal test -- since I ate later than planned and food interferes with my C/L absorption, I dissolved the tablets under my tongue, let them sit for a bit and then swallowed with a whole glass of water (there didn't seem to be much left).

Anyone experimented with this?

Yes. I chew them and push the mush against my gums. The chewing speeds it up but the mouth absorption doesn’t seem to do much.

Hi rebtar, No, it doesn't get into the blood stream under your tongue. I guess the document you provided the link to refers to the "orally disintegrating tablets" which are made for people who are unable to swallow tablets...

To get a fast reaction, I chew a regular IR tablet tablet and wash it down with water.

I think the fastest reaction may be had by crushing a tablet with a mortar and pestle and stir into a glass of water (and then drink it)(AKA "liquid sinemet")...

Whatever way you do it, it still gets absorbed in the small intestine.

I've always used ODT - Orally Disintegrating Tablets. Started C/L around 12 (+/-) yrs ago and I prefer them. They used to be called Parcopa but now they refer to them as C/L ODT. My dosage back then was 4 Odt's per day, now I take 5 regular C/L's and 3-5 1/2 Odt's. I use them now to get me through to my next regular time, if needed. As far as your question, the Odt's kick in within 15 - 30 minutes in comparison to about 45 - 60 minutes for the regular.Levod made said the Odt's go through the intestines like the regular. I have always been curious about that but never asked my doctor. I would ask your doctor about the Odt's.

I use regular blue LD/CD tablets , chew them and follow with a hot coffee. Seems to get the fastest reaction. They dont taste that bad.

As far as I know, Levodopa is absorbed in the duodenum, so needs to be swallowed and leaving in the mouth won’t achieve anything

I also chew half a tablet between Rytary doses. No real offending taste. I'll drink a little water afterward. Takes about 20 minutes to kick in.

I dissolve a tab under the tongue first thing upon waking, and then rinse it down with coffee. It usually kicks in in about an hour.
