Interesting, but not so much a study as a sort of commercial for a planned supplement. No dosing details or actual regimen. I wonder if there was ever an update?
He's the guy who developed Syncolein, a mannitol product that also contains alpha galactosidase which is the active ingredient in Beano which he put in for the purpose of reducing gas caused by mannitol in some people. It does feel like an advertisement for his product. He doesn't discuss butyrate at all yet butyrate is likely a major reason for the effects of mannitol in PwP.
If Mannitol works by increasing butyrate, could that be the same reason why someone on this forum had success taking butyric acid? I recalled that the person posting was taking 12 capsules a day of the Neesley brand, even though 6 capsules is supposed to be the daily maximum. It had a significant reduction in his Parkinson's symptoms. I don't know whether anyone else has tried that on this forum or not. In any case, is it possible that both Mannitol and butyric acid capsules have the same mechanism of action by increasing butyrate?
I think that this may be it. Try mannitol first as it's cheaper, and if that fails try the butyrate capsules.
I think that is a definite possibility. For me, I get benefit from xylitol which is a sugar alcohol like mannitol and also aids in butyrate production.
Oh wow. Is xylitol even better than Mannitol?
Also, is there any harm in taking both Mannitol AND butyric acid capsules?
I haven't seen any comparison studies between the two as concerns butyrate production. If butyrate is the reason that some PwP benefit from mannitol, xylitol might work as a substitute, but that remains to be seen as the only person that I am aware of who found xylitol helpful is Gio. Xylitol is helpful for me, but I don't have PD, so not much help there.
I had correspondence with Don McCammon recently re a problem I was having accessing the video from here in Australia. He replied that “I had an accident and had to give up my syncolein endeavours.” whatever that all means.
I had the same reply. I am also in Australia. Does anyone have a recommended suggestion for which brand of Mannitol is best to purchase?
i don’t think it matters about the brand really. But the price varies a lot. I got mine from a wholesaler, Eustralis Food and Wine, who supplied me when I told them our story. I opened an account with an ABN. They get the mannitol from Spain. They haven’t had any for awhile, and may stop importing it. I’ve had it from eBay once and have just got some more.
If Eustralis in Melbourne gets anymore, I’ll let you know.
One of our members did say that he got his sense of taste back (or it may have been smell) after taking mannitol from Bulk Supplements in the US. When they ran out, he got supply from someone else and his sense of taste disappeared again. There was some discussion as to why and Marion suggested it could be what it’s sourced from. As my husband has a very reduced sense of taste, I tried to source it from Bulk Supplements, but they were out.

Thank you for your help. I chased up Eustralis Food and Wine, however they no longer stock it. I can purchase Bulk Supplements Mannitol Powder (500 Grams) through Amazon for $44 which seemed reasonable. I have put an order in.
When I first looked for mannitol, I ordered on Amazon to discover it was coming out of China. As we have no idea how well these products are controlled, I was very concerned. Fortunately it didn’t arrive and I was refunded. Then I discovered Eustralis. Theirs was only $17 for 500gr. Oh well, all good things must come to an end.
It may be possible to order from their supplier..Sosa, in Spain. Some members have managed it. Mind you, they may be European. I might look into it.

The benefits of niacin are well documented.
Niacin is the form of vitamin B3NA, nicotinic acid, stuff that needs to be studied and understood before used.

Hi Art,Yes it is the same, the daily dose I take is three pills three times a day. In my opinion it is the only probiotic that really makes a difference in intestinal well-being besides the fact that it could improve the availability of butyric acid. As per your advice, I also take a couple of coffee tablespoons of xylitol for breakfast for the same reason.
Can you convert the "coffee tablespoons" into approximate grams? What benefit do you see from this combination and how long have you been taking it? Thank you!
I don't know how many grams are two small tea spoons, for some things I use relative culinary precision, that is, just enough to sweeten my coffee. Since using them I am much more regular in my bowel function and I have a general well-being. The myiarisan recommended it to me by Millbrooke, a HU poster.
Yes I've seen studies on Myiarisan, but it is too expensive on Amazon and much less expensive on eBay. I imagine it is very inexpensive in Japan, but I notice some sellers take 2 months or more to deliver it.Thank you for the feedback, Gio!
