MANNITOL: Must it be taken on an empty stomach to obtain proper absorbtion, or the opposite?

While you are at it, do you have any other useful Mannitol tips?

Thanks.

@discogs_discogs, the answer is that it doesn't matter. What does matter is the quality of the product. Depending on where you live, you have different choices based on anecdotal experiences of members of this forum.

You can and should search this forum and find the ones that actually work. For example in the USA, the informal consensus is Biofinest - biofinest.com/en/search?con...

Biofinest is currently out of stock and many other brands are out of stock.

Unfortunately, now is a very bad time to buy Mannitol or for that matter any other supplement. I would not try any new supplement or even buy existing ones that you are on at least through the end of the year.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Thanks. What I have is mannitol from bulksupplements.com, which is its own brand. I did not know that Syncolein or Biofinest were the ones to choose, so thank you for pointing that out. I hope that Bulk Supplements will turn out to be decent quality.

Hello:). I’m new here so maybe it’s just that I can’t find my way around the site. Why shouldn’t one buy supplements right now? All the best:)

@p1800, due to Covid-19, manufacturers and distributors are facing an extreme supply crunch for the past year and therefore trying to get old stock cleared in a market where people can getting desperate.

The reason why I say don't try a new supplement is because if you don't have an idea of what to expect or what it does for you, you might likely not figure out that something isn't working as it normally should. The world's supply chain is in bad shape and I want to stay clear of things that are not vital to my existence until it's all settled down.

For example, my Instacart shopper bought me a pack of Equal (artificial sugar) last week and I discovered that it had an expiration date of August 2020! I called the manufacturer and told them about it and was shocked to hear that it is still good and that I should not have any issues with it. They told me to use it and not to worry.

I asked for a replacement and they told me to go back to the place where I had bought it. Needless to say, that was not going to happen because I had purchased through Instacart precisely for the reason that I do want to go to the store! It was clear that they wanted to push an expired product. I then asked them how I would know if it had "actually" expired and the answer was that I would know if it tasted "weird". They "assured" me that even at that stage, the prod was still fit for consumption 😂

Hope this makes sense?

It absolutely makes sense. I just hadn’t thought about that. Have to start checking expiration dates...Thanks for the reply:).

The initial research from Israel was mentioned on this site and linked to the Syncolein site, which produces mannitol especially for PD. They suggest taking it in coffee. My husband takes it in iced coffee after lunch.

If he takes it after lunch, this tells me that mixing it will meals might be a good idea (ie. No need to take it on an empty stomach). Is there something unique about the synergy between mannitol and coffee that would prompt them to suggest this combination?

I checked out the Israeli site, Clinicrowd, on mannitol use for PD. However, the site appears to be down now and perhaps forever.

Google syncolein.com

I assumed the reason for taking it with coffee was because coffee gets through the Blood Brain Barrier. I don’t think it’s essential though.

They seem to use a FB page: facebook.com/CliniCrowdPark...

Ah, I guess they did have a page, and it is down: clinicrowd.info/

I take it with my morning coffee. Mine is from bulk supplements.

Thanks. Has the Bulk Supplements brand given you good results or nothing very noticeable?

pdpatient profile image
pdpatient in reply to Discogs_discogs

Nothing noticeable. I am not sure if this is because of the age of the product (they went out to stock right after I bought it 😂) or the inherent composition of the product. It is made in China and I am not knocking it just because it's made there, but the difference between Biofinest and bulksupplements in terms of symptom relief was like night and day. Hope this helps.

I just went on the Biofinest website and it indicated that it’s back in stock. They didn’t list Australia as one of the countries they export to though. ☹️

Weird.. I googled biofinest Mannitol. It says New Arrival. I did an order, but when I got to my address, Australia is not on their list of countries. I’ve sent them a message.

I’m not sure really. I think it improves my sense of smell and my speech is better, but it’s difficult to isolate as I take so many things.I am surprised that the brand would make much difference as it’s just a simple sugar.

I’d take more if it didn’t give me so much gas!!

Mannitol is used to test SIBO. if you have gas it is because you have a gut dysbiosis / sibo.

I have been taking Mannitol Balance brand - made in France non-GMO for about 6 weeks. So far, I haven't had any noticeable bloating or gas. I take it first thing in the am with my coffee, then again around 6 pm diluted in warm water. I wanted to buy Biofinest because it is "made" in the US with organic ingredients but it has been unavailable as pdpatient noted. It's hard to say if it is helping (yet) but perhaps my handwriting and right hand coordination is improving slightly.

My husband has been taking syncolein for about 2 years now and I do think it helps. So many supplements tried it is hard to pin effects on just one. He stopped them all for a few weeks at one point and deteriorated so went back on them all again. Not too much wind. No more than usual anyway🤣.

in reply to LAJ12345

Where do you acquire the Syncolein? I can not find it for sale online. Biofinest is not available. Maybe I will have to purchase Mannitol Balance. I’m presently using Bulk Supplements but I want to upgrade to better quality.

I have bought mannitol from a company called Qualifirst in Toronto Ontario. They are restaurant and food manufacturers suppliers. Can’t attest to the quality as yet. I’ve just started using it. The service was excellent and less expensive than the one I bought from Israel which cost more in import duty than the actual product! However,I noticed an improvement in my sense of smell which previously was all but nonexistent also gained improvement in my voice . I’m hoping this one will have similar results. Will post again after I’ve used the Qualifirst for a while.

Any way to deal with bloating?
