A poem you might enjoy:

Antigonish [I met a man who wasn’t there]

Hughes Mearns

Yesterday, upon the stair,

I met a man who wasn’t there

He wasn’t there again today

I wish, I wish he’d go away...

When I came home last night at three

The man was waiting there for me

But when I looked around the hall

I couldn’t see him there at all!

Go away, go away, don’t you come back any more!

Go away, go away, and please don’t slam the door... (slam!)

Last night I saw upon the stair

A little man who wasn’t there

He wasn’t there again today

Oh, how I wish he’d go away...

Since we are doing Parkinson's humor, the other night there was rhythmic drumming in my pillow. I knew it was not mice, but what?? Then it dawned on me ... Yo duh ... Can you guess?

.

.

.

Jaw tremor. Fortunately I was able to stop it and get to sleep.

I'm sure that you'll be glad to know

He left when you told him to go.

To my back yard he goes and comes

he hides in my geraniums.

Among the flowers he flits about

but disappears when I come out.

My wife wakes up and calls to me:

"D'you know it's quarter after 3??

I'd like to tell her. Do I dare?

about the man on GB's stair?

I miss my husband. He is there but isn't there anymore.

Please tell us about him. If it will help, use poetic license.

Illness and aging offer us the long goodbye. Many 'let go's, sometimes on a daily basis. Makes me want to feel the pain of sadness and longing for how things were, and say thanks to him, instead of escaping into 'he's fine' mode which could mean more emotional pain for me later.
