Stomach reflux

Hi! My name is Pam and I am 53 yrs young! I have R. A. For approx. 3 yrs. I love the outdoors, gardening and music.

I currently am on 20 mg of Methotrexate and just started having reflux problems. Has anyone had any success with a certain medication or over the counter medication for this problem. I find a lot of pills interact with methotrexate.

Thanks!!!

Oh, I am a newbie to this group:)

Hello Musiclover104, Welcome to this web sight I find it very useful and it's good to know there are other people out there with the same problem and all of these symptoms are not just in our head!

I take 20 mg Famatodine every morning. It's over the counter. I really works. I hope you feel better! I hope you feel better.

Good morning, Pam. I'm Jo. 45 and have been living with RA for the last 16 years. :( My doctors put me on injectable methotrexate to alleviate stomach issues. I get tired of giving myself a shot once a week, but I have ulcers now (a result of too much ibuprophen over the years), and the injectable MTX really is the best for me. As such, I take Prilosec and probiotics to help with my stomach issues. Make certain to address your concerns with your doctor and ask for a GI doctor referral to keep you on the right path. Good luck! - jo :)

I started drinking Kombucha and never have heartburn anymore.

Hi Pam - A couple of things I can think of: try lemon water (one lemon in a pitcher of water) - that helps me a lot; another possibility is 1 - 2 cayenne capsules (I know it sounds counterintuitive, but the cayenne heals ulcers).

yes, we made the following changes when I had similar experience

1. Increases folic acid to 5mg a day

2. Switch to injectable methotrexate, rasuvo. It sometimes calms the pains and upset in your tummy. Insurance companies don't like to approve so your doc, his staff and you might need to push them and be relentless about it

3. My rheumatologist prescribed omerazole (20mg) once daily

This calmed my tummy significantly. It did not end it but it is so minor it's hardly noticeable now.

Omeprazole is awesome. It would be a good idea to talk to your doctor about the reflux though. That is stomach acid backing up into your throat. It can cause a LOT of problems, including cancer. You could also have a hiatal hernia which is also a pain in the rear to deal with. Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

I have the same issue and take Metamucil fiber tablets that seem to help. Also, eat non fat plain Greek yogurt with blueberries just prior to taking meds. I have a hiatal hernia too and a history of peptic ulcers. You might want to ask doc about seeing a gastrologist or a nutritionist.

If you are on opioids they can cause gastroparethis which is a slow gut and causes reflux. Just fyi, follow up with your Dr.
