I need help with what I can eat after dropping down on modulan IBD.

I have crohn's and been on modulan IBD for 8 weeks and am now on steroids. I have just had a call from my consultants secretary saying because I'm on steroids I will be hungry and can now try food but I have no clue what I can try. I know it's bland food like poached fish or jacket potato on its own. But what do i start off with. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

Andy.

Hi, yeah just start with jelly, clear soups for a couple of days then progress to boiled fish, chicken, potatoes (no skin), rice etc. Then add low risk foods like lamb, boiled carrots, any lower fibre foods for a week/10 day, then ho from there. Remember high fibre foods and complex carbohydrates/starches need more breaking down and therefore the gut needs to work harder, causing more activity, increasing inflammation due to immune system attacking gut. As your prob aware a lot of people when medication is right can eat a fairly normal diet. Unfortunately at times the medication has reduced effect or stops working, but there are certainly a lot more options to change to and try now x

Thank you for your reply Willow. I will have poached fish tomorrow. I suppose butter is out of the question on potatoes.

Thanks again Willow.

Hi Andy I was looking for my diet sheet but cant find it, was on Modulin earlier in the year. From what I remember it was no raw foods or dairy for the first 2 weeks. Slow introduction of Bread and wheat based items in the second week. First week was well cooked easily digestible foods in small but frequent portions. I was also advised to continue with half a tin of Modulin a day to start with and to use it as a milk substitute in hot drinks and on cereals. Take it easy as tummy will have shrunk and not be used to processing food. You may also need some light laxatives as body forgets how to process. Sounds a bit mad but its how it affected me.

Nestle has a phased diet plan for their Modulen formula. Maybe it’s available to download. We have one for my daughter and it tells you what to introduce first for a few weeks, stuff like egg, banana, and what definitely to avoid.
