I was diagnosed with colitis about 6 months ago after years of being told it was IBS. Lately been experiencing constipation, will go 3/4 times a day but dry stools that look like they have seeds in? Its painful to pass and my stomach feels very tender

I have had this problem. Constipation is surprisingly common amongst UC sufferers! I was advised by my IBD nurse to use an osmotic laxative like movicol, laxido or cosmocol, all available at chemists. These make the stools retain water so they are more comfortable to pass. Keep fluid levels up too. One sachet a day works well for me.

I've used laxido before but it just gives me such bad diarrhoea for like a week!
