High faecal calprotecin

Hi there, i am new here, need some info if anybody has faced this.

A week before i went to GP because my stomach was bloating constantly, had some gas ,and my stomach was burning that time,so he said that it might be IBS so get the stool test.

I had done stool check, my faecal calprotecin was 922 ,he said u need colonscopy urgently, in the lab reports it is written Inflamatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer is likely..

I am so scared, blood results all came normal, i dont have any pain in abdominal areas,no weight loss, no fatigue, sound sleep, stool 1 or two time daily.

I have been just eating rice, chicken, lentils ,simple foods from last week, and i feel normal,no gas,no bloating as well, but the stool is someday like diarrehea type.

I have ranged gastro specialist and said that i can get appointmnt in two weeks.

I can appreciate how worried you must be, but a high Calprotectin, and clear blood tests, is more indicative of IBD than of anything else. You're doing the right think by taking an appointment with the GI consultant as soon as you can. Good luck, and please keep us posted of your results, or if you have any further questions.

Thankyou so much for your reply😊.

Sorry i mention like me,but its actually my husbands case, i have been digging everywhere about this, and i found this forum

, i am worried like hell , i have not slept well since i heard this,

He have internal hemmoroids as well,, when he used to eat out of track he used to get gas, bloating but again if he starts to eat normal foods then everything feels okay..

Yeah the gp refered him to public one ,but they said that it can take from 4weeks to several months, and said that the doctor have not opened the file, once he will open and then only categorize how urgent it is..

We dont have patience to wait, so we are going for private ones even though we have to pay extras. Cant stay like this without knowing the fact..

😭😭

I assumed you were paying privately, when you said two weeks. I would still keep the NHS appointment, so you don't have to keep paying, you can also ask the private consultant if he will transfer you to his NHS clinic, if you really like him. Who booked you in for a colonoscopy, because, although they won't routinely, look for your results, if any thin sinister is found by the colonoscopist, it would be flagged up for the originating doctor to see as an urgent case. So that is another good sign.

Thanks again for your reply, means alot.😊.

He is doing good ,the only thing is loose stool, he is taking probiotic yoghurt ,cocunt water and pomegranate juice as well, i found in google that this helps in reducing inflamtaory bowel disease.

I would suggest, until he is seen by a GI consultant or team, that he cuts down on alcohol, stops drinking all fizzy drinks, stops eating peanuts, sweetcorn, Brussel sprouts and baked beans. This will help with bloating and wind problems. Good luck, and please keep us posted, or if you have any further questions.

I have crohns disease and my fecal cal was 1510 when I had zero regular crohns symptoms

That sounds terrific..sorry to hear that..

The only reason i am scared is because the laboratory result says inflamatory bowel disease and likely to have colorectal cancer.

And the gp also scares me saying that.

Would you mind if you can share your story?

I have appointment with gastro specialist coming monday.

I was diagnosed with crohn's and I was put on a course of entocort. During this time, my fecal cal was 25. After that, I was not on any meds for about a month and a repeat fecal cal was done and it was 1510 (even though I had no clinical symptoms). Colonoscopy also showed an ibd flare but no cancer.

We thought that gas, bloating, and sometimes heartburn were the symptoms of gastro, thats why my husband went for just normal checkup.

Blood test like renAl function, iron studies,b 12, serum floate,AAG, TTS ,LFTS,electrolytes came normal,,other than this he did stool test and it came 922.

The youtube stories scares me most where people with no symptoms also had colon and bowel cancer.😭

And he has hemooroids problem as well.

He is getting dry cough as well from last month.

How did things go with your husband?
