Yes, CRP shows chronic inflammation, that is inflammation that is going on for a while. It can also be raised with an infection, arthritis, following surgery etc

Doesn't indicate chronic inflammation unless the CRP is always raised (possibly). CRP changes really rapidly.

C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase reactant, a protein made by the liver that is released into the blood within a few hours after tissue injury, the start of an infection or other inflammation. Increased concentrations in the blood can be found after a heart attack, in sepsis, and after a surgical procedure. It is often the first evidence of inflammation or an infection in the body, with rising concentrations frequently preceding pain, fever or other clinical indicators. The concentration of CRP in the blood can jump a thousand-fold in response to inflammation and can be valuable in monitoring disease activity.

The CRP blood test is not diagnostic but it provides information to the doctor as to whether inflammation is present. This information can be used by the doctor in conjunction with other factors, such as signs and symptoms, physical examination and other tests to determine if someone has an acute inflammatory condition, or if they are experiencing a flare-up of a chronic inflammatory disease. The doctor may then follow up with further testing and treatment.

Yes, both crp and esr can be raised as they indicate inflammation in the body. I'm not sure of the actual numbers though - what's normal, etc. Ask your GP for info!

normal range is dependant on age and sex. as we age our normal range increases. When we get results from doctors they usually use the normal range of a 20-25 year old, which can be misleading

Ok thanks! I never get to know the actual numbers of my blood tests, just comments like, "This is normal or that's a bit high". I have asked for them to be put on Patient Access but no luck yet. I'll keep asking.....

im having a similar problem, my CRP and WCC (sometimes just WCC) are high. but calprotectin was normal.

It can be infection or inflammation anywhere in the body.

I do not think much to calprotectin as mine has previously gone from normal to abnormal in a period of 2 weeks,
