Has anyone reacted badly to iron infusions?

Hi everyone.

I hope you are all as well as possible.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of reactions to iron infusions? I've had iron infused before but this time I've had abdominal pain and cramps although I did manage to get out and do few errands ...I thought it was possibly due to the vitamin D injection I had the same day (wed). A couple of days ago I woke up shivering and feeling hot, I ached absolutely everywhere just like the flu. I've not been able to do anything other than stay in bed and take painkillers.

Just wanted to ask has anyone had similar and how long did it take for these symptoms to ease? I had monofer infusion this time which I had before although it went in quite fast and I don't think my hb was as low as previously.

Many thanks for any replies

Hi Tracy

Thank you very much for your reply.

Sorry to hear you need iron infusions too and the last one made you have cramps. I remember the first infusion I had cosmofer but my hb was 8 then and I was very out of breath even when just walking and the fatigue was extremely bad I also had low b12 and hadnt at that time started any b12 injections though.

The cosmofer was given over 7 hours I felt a bit dizzy initially and my blood pressure was quite low when they checked it but I was ok when they slowed it down a little.

Since then I've had monofer i think twice, but the flu like symptoms really hit hard saturday night and all day yesterday. Never had this reaction before. Still feel rough today but slightly better than yesterday so hope I'm through the worst of it. Just had something to eat first time in days so fingers crossed.

Hope you are doing okay too xx
